I have a built-in Garmin Nuvi in my 2009 Suzuki and would like to duplicate it in a 2004 Subaru - the Nuvi 50s seem to meet my needs.

Both look the same physically (5") but the 50 LM is about $20 more, is it worth it? I'm not sure I want new features, as I'm trying to match the existing Garmin, my wife isn't into deal with subtle differences when she moves between cars. For me, not so much, I have a Magellan unit in my 2005 Chevy Colorado and I switch with only minor start-up problems.

I need to make a decision soon, this is a possible Christmas Gift.

    Thanks,

Edit: Subject error should read 50LM, not 590LM

Looking at Amazon it appears the difference is the 50 LM offers a Lifetime Map update. As this is going into an older used car, I will opt for the 50 without LM.

Glad you found something that will work. The Lifetime Maps updates from Garmin provide quarterly updates for the life of the device. The majority of the updates are streets and addresses in new subdivisions. If you mostly travel in areas that have been mapped for quite awhile you won't miss that.
