    ORIGINAL WORKING SYMBOLIC LINK
    MkLink /J "%AppData%\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup" "D:\MobileSync\Backup"

SUGGESTED ENTRY IN COMMAND WINDOW TO REMOVE LINK IN ORDER TO RECREATE AFTER RESTARTING PC
    rmdir "%AppData%\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup"

    I think...

hc, what exactly did you type? I was unsure if both origin and destination folders factored into removal.

UPDATE: You are ahead of me, seeing into my next post as I'm composing it! :vbeek:  I will now read your latest post and fiddle... Back in a few.

Thanks for climbing into the ditch. :vbtongue:

    I did something super simple...

    mklink /D \TestFolder G:\Testfolder

Which dropped a Folder Symbolic Link on the root of C: which then takes you to a folder on the root of my G: drive.

    rmdir \Testfolder

That nuked the symbolic link, while leaving the folder and contents on the G:\TestFolder intact.

What was the D in your line: mklink /D \TestFolder G:\Testfolder

I'm overthinking this, from chasing my tail for days. I'm going with your suggested example, copying/pasting.

My link is a J link (Directory Junction) which seems to need a specifier to behave properly. I'm not sure if this attachment is relevant. From this MS link:

    Symbolic Directory Link.

I see that you've got a Junction... and I'm scratching my head as to how a junction is different from a directory symbolic link. Oh bother...

Copy/paste of your contributed suggestion caused the origin folder to go away. Now I'm going to attempt creating the J link again. Cross your fingers.

Am I keeping you from something, like Work?

    mkdir g:\NewTest
    mklink /J \TestFolder G:\NewTest

TestFolder shows up as a <JUNCTION> on the root of C:
Made a test file in TestFolder

    G:\NewTest contained the file.

rmdir \TestFolder deleted the Junction on the root of C: while leaving the folder G:\NewTest and contents intact.

I do not understand the difference between a junction and a system link directory... yet...
