    Jig, that looks quite promising. I had been told about the F12 thing by Toshiba; but not how to use the UEFI settings. I'm also trying to get the intallation CDs from Toshiba (which should be included in the computer, but few do this any more). One board suggested some methods for fixing my issues; but I need those discs.

    I don't know about Toshiba, but HP and Dell are set up to allow you to generate those disks, inluding on a USB stick. Also, you may have a protected partition, showing up usually as a D: drive, that is a recover partition as long as you don't allow any partitioning tool to reformat it.

    I don't know, but worth checking if you haven't.

    Yes, there is a recovery partition; but before using that, I want to try and recover either the data or try and resuscitate the existing setup. Using F12, I can start from scratch again (supposedly).
