Jig went dark? :vbeek: I've heard he has a very particular set of skills.

    Netb/r0k: 911, hello? I've just been juggled!
911 operator: uh, is that code for something?
Netb/r0k: No, it's what it sounds like.
911 operator: <silence> ... what does that sound like?

No apparent harm, but I haven't done much on the pc other than clean, scan and reboot. I plan to dig out a bootable usb and run some more scans.

My guess would be this is a spear phishing scam... it relies on you to provide usable information once you have followed the link rather than being an attack on your computer. If you didn't give them any information they were requesting, you are probably good.

I still might use it as an excuse to upgrade to SSD and do a clean install! ;)

I find email interesting. Outside of work, I maintain 2 email accounts. I do not do any personal correspondence on any of my personal accounts. They collect subscription or account emails from utilities, banks etc. I've been migrating things from my ISPs email to my Gmail account as they come in. My intent is to abandon my IPSs email, as it pretty much sucks. Beyond that, email is simply used to sign up for crappy websites that demand an email. Personal communication is done via FB, or phone calls. I've got some filter rules on my gmail that keep the spam at bay, and I've not really given second thought to it.

I feel for you, Jig. It's a terrifying moment when you realize you've clicked on a malicious link. You essentially never trust that system again, until you wipe it. Ugh.

What a coincidence. The 750 GB 840 EVO SSD in my Macbook Pro died twice this year so I decided to replace it with a 1TB 850 EVO and while I was at it I put in 16 GB of RAM I've had sitting on my desk for years, too busy to install. Retirement can be a wonderful thing! SSD upgrade is the most cost effective upgrade by far. Faster boot. Faster everything.

I hadn't bothered to upgrade to SSD previously because I hadn't felt the need for additional speed and was not looking forward to the work involved. But, I need to do some digital purging anyway, and hopefully I can get a decent deal.

I've been getting those Amazon 'order cancelled' emails for a while now. Oddly, they only seem to come to my junk email account that I've never used for Amazon.
