    This is an interesting commentary on what Google may be up to with its Google Talk Beta. The beta is a 1.6 MB instant messaging download for Windows Vista, XP or 2000. In its current form, it resembles AOL Messenger and Skype, and primarily offers VoIP voice, chat and file transfers. The writer takes something of a flight of fancy and supposes that the initiative could be part of a far bigger plan...
    One possibility is that the company will make Google Talk compatible with both traditional telecom and other VoIP networks and its voice files searchable. This could lead to partnerships on a branded Google voice service…
    The author says the dark fiber that the company has amassed could also come into play. This could also explain Google's interest in maintaining Net Neutrality laws as they stand today. The piece is rather fanciful, but clearly illustrates that Google is involved in some significant planning…
