I report here some compatible material and software, their version and where I bought them from France.
I bought Ipaq 214 to use Memory-map that is very useful for me because I work on fungal biodiversity (this is my job and my hobby), and I need to have the precise location of rare, sometimes new species that we should discover in the wild. My trips for mushroom collect are in various countries on different continents.
When I travel, I like to be truly autonomic, and therefore I do not want mobile phone and I do not want Internet (that I use all the yer at home and at work). So my only connection with the “civilization” is my BT GPS.
Since I get this device, I decided to occasionally use it for photo, music, film, ebooks, translation, and GPS for driving.
Below is the list of all I purchased for this. The forum (and other forum) was very useful for me; however the list below could now be useful for other people, particularly those living in France. To find all these adequate utilities, software etc… was time consuming; so, this list can be helpful for those who begin. This is also to thanks all the people who helped me, anonymously. Nothing is very original in this list, so, it is a vry modest contribution.
Now, I have all I wanted, excepted one or two things as a headphone. I also want to stop to buy more (total until now is 10050 euros). It is enough. Note that the prices include postage charges and tax. All the sellers were excellent except expansy who sells products that he has not).
Some detailed comments are after the list.

Practically, I have neither yet used the Arkon support nor the Otter Box 1900 since I have not yet receive them; and I have not tested the FlashVideoBundle (for clip from Youtube for example).

Ipaq 214 : after one week it sopped to work (I was obliged to start it without the battery, several times although I performed a hard reset). Hp gave me a new device (via the seller) and since this time I never had any problem. When you buy this device, I recommend using it intensively during the first week to see if all works correctly.

Memory map is an excellent product (particularly in France with the not too much expensive IGN maps); however, probably because of the pixel size of the VGA screen, the map scale is not so good as on my PC at home. This is a little bit deceiving. However Memory map work very well although the maps are on the CF card.

Igo 8 works perfectly for me. I hope that the voice will be more audible when the Arkon support (with amplification) will be installed.

Batteries (including the 4400mA) work very well, the device is never too hot and the drain lost is moderate (0.4% per hour) when the SD (2 GB) and the CF card (32 GB) are in the device.

I performed a back up without any problem. All the applications work fine. Four of them use the Bluetooth connection easily, but I must close one before using another one (all use COM 6). This is not a true problem. There is no problem of "out of memory error" with the listed software.

I will not talk about my own tests because I unfortunately did not note them, but some applications that I forget did not work correctly; I remember the Oxford Hachette dictionary which worked very slowly when located on the CF card, while the Harrap’s works fast in the same conditions (but it use Mobipocket Reader).

This was my first PDA and I use it since two months; so, I am not and I do not intend to become expert. I simply wanted to have a nice and playful device. Although Ipaq 214 has a lot of potential problems, it can be this device, at the condition to read many forums … and to have the good one.

I hope this help, sorry for my English that is not very good, and thanks again to all the members of this forum.

For what it is worth, my HP 12C emulator program I purchased for my old 3900series iPAQ seems to be working fine. It is called pocket 12C.

Hi. Here´s my experience. After I installed a suite of my favourite progs which´d been working happpily on my Loox C550 complete with a cooked !!!WM6ROM, strange things started happening. I had been expecting a variety of problems after doing research on forums, yet I was still taken by surprise and disgusted . But let me get to the point; all of a sudden I found the device wouldn´t switch itself back on after being switched off . Nothing helped-even putting it on AC - only soft-reset helped the wake the beast up. And another thing : the sound stoppped working-the sound control kept returning to zero positon, but even if I turned it up - no sound was coming out. So I did the hard reset ( using my both hands and mouth- have u figured out a more civilized grip), and everything was working fine. After hours of careful installing and checking and testing I hopefully discovered the culprit-the SRS WOWHD sound enhancement facility which I ´d been looking forward to putting to a frequent use on my new ipaq not equipped with the bass and treble controls. How many times will I have to go through this ordeal ? Or can we hope for a more friendly and sociable updated ROM from HP engineers who´d obviously finished halfway through cooking the current ROM.
Otherwise, when working-it´s a great machine, eh ?
    So,to sum up-
    NON-WORKING-SRS WOWHD

P.s. Or do u have different experience ? I´d be keen to know.

UPDATE: It works after small registry modification:)
Find HKLM->Drivers->BuiltIn->WaveDev and set value of "OldDriver" as "Wavedev2.dll" (just add 2, now it is Wavedev.dll) and, of course, do soft reset, as usually after registry changing

I've had problems with some software that's supposed to be orientation-aware. I can confirm that Morphgear and Indibar always run in portrait mode. It seems that the 210 has a problem informing apps that it's been switched to landscape. Has anyone experienced similar problems with other software?

    I missed SKSchema.
I use it without any problems but don't make use of all of its functionality. It's likely that there parts of the program that cause trouble and others that don't. Just make sure you try it before buying and make a full backup first.
    It's a surprisingly useful application.
