    Over&the past few weeks, there has been a flurry of devices released by HP. Today continues our look at those devices by previewing the HP iPaq rx3715. The rx3715 is at the top of HP's Mobile Media Companion line. It is geared for those who are looking to consolidate a PDA, MP3 player, camera, wireless internet/email terminal, remote for TV/VCR/DVD, and eBook reader into one compact device. This preview of the rx3715& just covers&my first impressions. Final opinions&may change for the full review to be posted in the near future.

    There was plenty to get started with in the box:

    • Battery: wasn’t connected and had no charge; took 4 hours&for initial charge

    • Headphones: ear buds without the foam

    • Cradle: nicely weighted

    • Power cable: has an adapter that lets you connect directly to the iPaq instead of the cradle

    • HP Image Zone software CD

    • HP iPaq Companion CD: has ActiveSync 3.7.1, MS Outlook 2002, and HP Bonus Software package

    • Getting Started Guide

    • The “How Do I Guide”

    • An accessory guide

    • A special features guide for the Photosmart Camera and iPaq Mobile Media

      After 2hrs of playing with the rx3715. Here are some points that I have noticed:

        The screen is well balanced. There is no none of that tinge of yellow that is sometimes seen on the iPaq line;

      • The camera is much better than what I am used to with my Zire71. I like the digital zoom feature, even though it only takes a closer image at a lower resolution than the resolution that you were viewing;

      • Wireless setup is a breeze.

      • Coming primarily&from a PalmOS device, it is not as fast going from application to application, but it is not terribly&slow either.

        That is what I have to report so far. Below are links to an image gallery of the actual device and then an image gallery of some photos I took today using the built-in camera on the rx3715.&Feel free to ask me more questions in the forums and I will answer what I can. See you in a few weeks with the review.

    Those pictures are some of the best I've seen from a PDA...nearly servicable.

    These pics are really well. It was a good day to take pics without the flash and the HP really showed. I was also able to get some good shots of varing texures and colors. The neighborhood where I live is pretty good for that. Shutter speed is nice too. Kudos for a real digital camera in a PDA.

    Peace and Blessings

    I can't wait to read the rest of the review... One question: Where did you get the rx3715? I have yet to find a retail store that carries it.

    Thanks. I am getting used to doing things differently that on my Z71, like writing whole words instead of one letter at a time. That much I can say is a pleasant change - someone get me Calligrapher for the PalmOS please.

    Places sold:
    HP's store - hpshopping.com
    eCost - eCost

    Those are some of the places that i saw it being sold, there may be more in the coming weeks as it is just shipping now.

    Peace and Blessings
