I have Vista Home Thingy, IE 7, Windows Defender, Avast!, ErrorKiller, AdwareAlert, SpywareBlaster and crossed fingers. Yet I am still getting annoying ads taking over my browser and opening new tabs on me. What's a girl to do? I regularly update all of the above.

I'm not at my wits end, but am getting more and more pi$$ed off, especially when it interferes with my fun/education on here.

Sounds like you got something none of those can handle. Happened to me once. Tried everything. Finally reformatted. Had no idea where it came from, or even what it was, but no amount of scanning, reg cleaning, etc. would get rid of it.

Konrad probably could have killed it. ;)

Konrad - any holidays planned in the UK?

There's no way I'm going to reformat. Yet.

I'm dealing with something that looks like a virus. Either it shut down my virus protection, or my antivrus choked on its own stuff and a virus followed. Either way, I'm only online via my phone.

Good luck, Streaks! I feel your pain.

Ahh yes, the annoying ads...I remember those before I heard of other browsers.

The secret, Streaky, is to never ever used IE. ;)

Konrad was able to kill the virus I sent him and I'm sure he can kill yours. :newpalm:

Thanks jig washer e. I don't have a much pain as you appear to be having. Have you tried Avast! (it's free)? It's getting lots of recommendations in the UK (I don't about the PC press, but word of mouth is working well).

I'm booting in safe mode with networking. Symantec online virus checker is scanning.

I have Ace, Firefox, IE, Netscape, Opera and Safari but IE is the only one that allows me to hit alt + S to post a message I have typed out on here.
