I'm all for the clamshell format. Big, wide screen & keyboard. Psion/HP Palmtop/Nokia Communicator - All good ergonomics. Don't know about hard drives. Seems like they would eat power. Also, what about durability? I hear Ipods have hard drives that die fairly regularly. If they work, great; if not, solid state would be better. I liked the Lifedrive but it seemed more like something that you would leave on your desk, rather than carry around. Gave the appearance of delicacy.
A Full Size SD slot, please. Might even fit in a compact flash slot like my Axim as well, but that's too much to ask. Still, have you noticed the capacity of some of these things they use in DSLR cameras?

When Hawkins was developing the original Palm Pilot, he used several versions of a plywood mockup. In meetings when he needed to lookup a phone number, jot down a note, he would pull out this hunk of wood from his shirt pocket and start tapping on it while his assistant lookedup the info.

Palm/Windows and cell phone execs had prototype WinTreos months before real details were made public.

I would suspect there have been several prototypes already as Hawkins is a very hands on kinda guy.

I just wonder if Jeff Hawkins will have a functional unit like Steve Jobs had when he introduced the iPhone?

Is it not unusual that at least one prototype has not been leaked?

    Or did I miss it?

I suspect that this means the Hawk is still several months away.

Do you think the time-frame will coincide with the iPhone launch or not similar times at all?

At first I thought that we were not going to see the Hawk until near Christmas, but these press releases are all talking about "demonstrating" the new product.

I really think the only thing holding the product up would be the OS. If Palm managed to integrate Garnet OS so quickly into Linux then it may be possible so see it sooner than Christmas.
