Maybe, the "Hawk" will contain a video camera with software capable of detecting minute eye movement for use as a cursor, but I'd prefer use of voice (speech) recognition for input and wireless video output to a pair of shades. ;)

No, no, no.... That's enough joking for today...

"I believe that the Hawk will be a tablet-style device that will resemble a cross between Palm’s TX and LifeDrive handhelds."

This idea makes great sense, but there's nothing truly revolutionary in this approach.

    Interesting speculation ... :)

I wonder if the new device will be classified as a "Mobile Manager"???

    Hehe :D...

Here is the official Intel site on MID/UMPCs. And one can find a picture of this above said prototype too.

MIDs are Mobile Internet Devices, a category just below UMPCs.

One one hand UMPCs (as per Microsoft) require powerful hardware capabilities (fast x86 CPU, lots of memory, large HDD, lots of connectors), just like the Q1, Q1Ultra, Asus R2h, etc.

On the other hand MIDs are smaller and require much less oomph and specs. By the way I've seen a video of a live presentation of the same device that was "grafted" a Palm logo on its screen somewhere above, a device that was running a flavor of Linux.

Just search Youtube for "umpc" and "linux", I'm sure you'll find it.

Cassidy, I don't know that Palm is going to let you listen in. As the invite says, "Credentialed media plus industry and financial analysts are invited to join the streamed webcast". You'll need to register and tell them who which publication/market analysis firm you work for.

All these reports seem to indicate that there is a device that will be demonstrated tomorrow. Is it possible that there is a fully-functional prototype that will be demonstrated?!

Just thinking out loud.... perhaps Palm had developed the Linux part of the new Palm OS for a while now (over a year) and were just waiting/negotiating for the Garnet OS license to incorporate into the OS.

This indeed would be positive news!

I knew that I would not qualify, but was hoping that you would:)

As editor for one of the largest Palm-based forums on the internet, I think you are emminently qualified.

    Any chance?
