Palm m105 hotsync with Mac issues
Hi there,
I'm hoping someone can help me with getting my Palm M105 connected to my iMac. It's baffling me....
See, I had it all working fine a few months ago, then my Mac died and I had it in to be fixed (about 3 times, but we won't go into that!). It's now working perfectly, but I cannot get my palm to sync with it at all.
What is happening is this: It is connected via a Palmconnect Serial to USB connector. Everything is installed as required, the conduit settings are all correct.... When I press the hotsync button I get: "Identifying User" on my Palm's screen and "Establishing Connection" on my iMac. Then the Hotsync progress window just vanishes, followed about 30 seconds later with the following message on my Palm:
"The connection between your handheld computer and the desktop was lost. Some of your data was NOT backed up. Please check your setup and try again"
Actually NONE of the data was transferred and I've checked my settings a hundred times. Everything is right- it''s just not working! The Error log in Hot Sync Manager has no info, the log on the palm just repeats the above error.
ANY help at all would be much appreciated- I feel like I've tried everything!
Regards,
Ross

Welcome to Brighthand, rossmac.

I'm sorry that you're having problems; I know how irritating that can be.
I'm moving your thread to the Hotsync/Mac thread where you'll attract the attention of other Mac users who will hopefully get you all set.

Re: Palm m105 hotsync with Mac issues
While your Mac was being repaired, did it invlove coping folders or files? It could be possible the the attributes to data files are set as read only as result of the copy process from and to your system. Unsure the correct attribute convention on a Mac, on a PC windows, the file attribute must be archived for function with Palm desktop.
Is the user name assigned to the m105 already established on the Mac Palm desktop, and is there data that can e view via the desktop?Welcome to Brighthand

Re: Palm m105 hotsync with Mac issues
As far as I know the problem lay with the "Logic Board" so I don't think that there would have been any file or folder copying. I had a look at the palm User files on my hard drive and they all appear to be 'read & write' so they should be fine.

I was hoping it would take on the username I have entered in Hot Sync Manager, but it's just not connecting. I can't figure out how to give my Palm a username any other way.

Did you Hard Reset to erase the user name?

From your description it would seem the m105 via USB serial adapter is communicating, otherwise the Hotsync manager window would not open. The observation that teh m105 returns a unable to connect is result of waiting for the reply from the Mac.
Try the hotsync with all other applications closed and monitor the the display feed back on the Mac.
You should recieve the question . If not, Hard Reset teh m105 again and try again.Welcome to Brighthand

Re: Palm m105 hotsync with Mac issues
I've never used a PalmConnect serial cable before, but one of the things I noticed in your original post was "Connected to computer by: USB". Is this the correct way?
I'm asking because my HSM still gives me the option to use modem, USB, or PalmConnect. Even though you are using a USB port, should HSM be set to use PalmConnect?

I had used hard reset to remove the user name a while back and I tried what you said here, but I didn't get the question, and still didn't once I'd used the hard reset again.

In Hot Sync Manager I've got both 'USB' and 'PalmConnect' ticked. I've played around with only having one ticked, but no success.

Re: Palm m105 hotsync with Mac issues
Hi again,
Just wondering if anyone has had any thoughts on my problem?
It seems that the problem lies with the Mac not prompting me to select a user to sync with the Palm, as it is waiting on a user and the Mac just closes the Hot Sync window without doing anything.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled the software numerous times and have just performed a system cleanup and maintenance, but this hasn't helped.
Any thoughts? If I can't get this to work I'm thinking of getting a palm m130 to replace it, but will this actually help as it doesn't seem to be a Palm or Palmconnect USB cable problem?
Thanks,
Ross
