Default I'm nearly convinced... Getting a Samsung Note II.. help?

My life has been nothing short of pure chaos, as possibly evident in my absence from here lately. Regardless, I did find a few minutes to pop on here today. Hello

So here's where I'm at. I love my current device. I really do. But dang it all, some of the new apps coming out are just killing my Shift. I experience app crashes, device unresponsiveness, and more. And it is the apps, not the OS, tweaks I've made, etc. I backleveled my Shift to GB, and I don't have issues unless I'm running specific apps.

A 1.2 single core processor, with miniscule storage and program memory also hamper my efforts. I've overclocked it, and I've adjusted the memory thresholds, which has far increased the performance... but... I had a few incidents within the past few weeks, were things that I needed to do, that were beyond work critical, failed on me. How embarrasing when you're dealing with law enforcement, and your phone freezes, and then hard boots on you. (That was while running JellyBean, thus why I'm back on GB).

I'm really looking at the Samsung Note II - but admittedly, I've not had much of a chance to look at what faults the device has.

Anyone know some dirt on this device? Is it easy to root? Are there bugs that just can't be squashed?

I'm still saving money, and hoping that with the release of the SG S IV in mid March, the Note II might drop in price.

Any and all input would be greatly appreciated!
Current Device: Samsung Galaxy Note II - Rooted Stock ROM
Retired Device: HTC EVO Shift 4G - (Rooted) JellyBelly ROM 4.1.2
    Tablet: Kindle Fire

The school year is back in session - I'm likely to be absent from here quite a bit...

Sorry to hear the cops almost caught up to you. I've been having a few issues lately with my E4GT freezing up on me, most often when using Enhanced Email app. I'll flash an updated ROM/Kernel/Modem in the near future, and perhaps that'll take care of it. Can you tell us which apps are causing you grief?

I haven't heard anything negative on the Note II. It sounds like a great device and I'm sure you'll be happy with it. I hope someone with more experience will post.

condolences, hc. the only thing I know is that Samsung bootloader is locked, and to unlock it voids the warranty. with such a new device, though, you may not need root. good luck -- oh, I think I saw one in use last night -- it's what I'd call big

I've heard nothing but good about the Note II other than those who are put off by it's size. Frankly, using Jellybean, I don't feel a powerful pull to flash ROMs these days. A lot of the issues with Android that used to get people to flash ROMs are no longer there. A good launcher and a few non-root tricks can take care of the rest.

I looked extensively at both the Galaxy Note II and the Galaxy S III, since both are on US Cellular. The Note II had very good reviews. The only complaint I've read is the very definition of a First-World Problem:

For the most part, people tend to love it. I didn't want it because it would be $249 instead of $99 with US Cellular, and most importantly, because it was simply too big for my hands. But it had a nicer screen and more solid build quality than the GS3, and most reviews are extremely positive.
Samsung Galaxy S III (U.S. Cellular, unrooted, Launcher8). My review.
Sony VAIO Duo 11 (i3-3217U, 11.6" 1080p IPS, N-Trig stylus, Windows 8). My video review; handwriting test.
    Sony VAIO F2390X (i7-2670QM, 540M, 16.4" 1080p, Windows 7 Pro). My video review.

Lol. That is too funny. Really?! That much drama for a few seconds delay? I'm sorry, but that just cracks me up.

If you were on death row, waiting for a last-minute call for clemency, would you wish the governor had the SIII or Note II? Those milliseconds count!

After watching the video I came up with the solution for the Note 2 lag turning on over the SG S3 - just press the Note 2's on button sooner

I'm pretty sure Samsung does NOT lock their bootloaders. Rooting my Galaxy S II was unbelievably easy--install ClockworkMod Recovery, reboot into recovery, flash rooted kernel, reboot. My next upgrade will likely be a Note 2.

I believe Jelly Bean requires you to unlock the boot loader to even root. It isn't hard, with the various root kits floating around like WUGS, but I think it is required. I only know for sure about my Nexus 7, but I believe it is generally true of Jelly Bean.

Not that I'm an expert, so if someone has better information, I'm happy to hear it.
