Can you sync an Outlook.com (Hotmail) calendar with an Android phone? Outlook.com email?
As the subject says. Three months into WP8 and only a couple months away from my upgrade, and US Cellular has no WP8 devices and no announced plans to carry WP8 devices. The only high-end hardware they carry is the Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note, so I'm seriously considering making the jump to Android. I do use several Microsoft services though (outlook.com email and calendar, SkyDrive, and Xbox Music). I know SkyDrive for Android exists and Xbox Music for Android is on its way, but had no idea how nicely an Android phone would play with outlook.com (aka hotmail) email and calendar. Any input?
Samsung Galaxy S III (U.S. Cellular, unrooted, Launcher8). My review.
Sony VAIO Duo 11 (i3-3217U, 11.6" 1080p IPS, N-Trig stylus, Windows 8). My video review; handwriting test.
Sony VAIO F2390X (i7-2670QM, 540M, 16.4" 1080p, Windows 7 Pro). My video review.

Re: Can you sync an Outlook.com (Hotmail) calendar with an Android phone? Outlook.com email?
Disclaimer: no smarta$$ comments from me, it stinks on ice when one is forced to change preferred platforms
The official Hotmail app for Android offers that as a feature, but since I don't use the Hotmail calendar (nor the Android one, for that matter) I'm not able to offer any advice, sorry (I use Pimlical which I think has it's own calendar db)
EDIT: the app I mentioned is fine for basic email but it doesn't include any in-line formatting; I *think* the 'universal' email app (called Email) will handle Hotmail okay, but I haven't tried it for Hotmail, only for Gmail.
Also, I'm a few generations back, Gingerbread -- at least 2 major versions out of step.Last edited by RickAgresta; 01-29-2013 at 01:18 PM.

Be warned, the app has pretty low ratings. You always take user ratings with a grain of salt, but generally you expect ratings to hit at least 3.8 or above overall.

I don't suppose Outlook.com has either pop3 or IMAP available. If so, you could use any email client for that, don't know about calendar solutions.
I'm sorry to hear you have to think about this. As Rick said, it's frustrating when what you want is out there, just not for you.Hook's Stories

I'm in the process of upgrading my hotmail account to outlook.com. I'll see what I can do.

No IMAP support. Not sure about POP3. Doesn't look like it's ready for Android just yet.

Well crud.
With leaving US Cellular not being an option (best coverage in rural Oregon, good prices, and my wife doesn't want to give up her current phone), no announced plans for WP8 on US Cellular, and inadequate support for Microsoft services on Android, it looks like me and my 7 Pro are going to be friends for a while longer.Samsung Galaxy S III (U.S. Cellular, unrooted, Launcher8). Yeah, I think you're in trouble. I went to US Cellular's customer service page and clicked on FAQs. The only Windows entry they had in it was Windows Mobile. When I clicked on it, it took me to a Microsoft page showing all the cool Windows Phone Smartphones Verizon is coming out with.

Well they supported Windows Phone 7 (HTC 7 Pro and ZTE Render) and in June of 2012 announced this:
"We believe in giving our customers the latest technology and device options and we are excited about the Windows 8 phone. It will be an important part of our device lineup going forward."

Re: Can you sync an Outlook.com (Hotmail) calendar with an Android phone? Outlook.com email?
I don't know about others, but my switch from hotmail.com to Outlook.com was not really an upgrade. The looks are subjective, so I'll leave that out; but I do think it hangs-up more often (I get a try-again message much too often). It's slow to move from message to message, etc. Anyone else have those issues?
