Smartphones With At&t 2G Network
Hi guys,
I am planning to upgrade my phone soon. I am looking to get the Samsung Galaxy Pro cause of the physical keyboard, like my Samsung Epix.
When I look the wireless technology on the Pro, it said it still have 2G and 3G for data. (According to GSMArena)
2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network HSDPA 900 / 2100
Epix
2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network HSDPA 850 / 1900 / 2100
But I know At&t will get rid of its 2G network soon.
So does this mean I can't use the Pro AND Epix once the 2G is gone?
Thanks all.Samsung T989D

Well, it means you can't use them for 2G. You will have to use 3G.

Re: Smartphones With At&t 2G Network
I wouldn't exactly worry. Yes, AT&T is theoretically getting rid of its 2G network, but that's not scheduled to be shut down for good until 2016.

Voice and text don't use the data system. 2G is going away because it's obsolete. 3G will eventually be obsolete too, but not this year. Don't fret about it.

Voice and text will be fine. You may not be able to use 2G for data after 2016. What's to be confused about? ;-)

Re: Smartphones With At&t 2G Network
Thanks Hook.
Now I am not worried about my Epix, but I am more worried about the Pro, because according to GSMArena, it recommend for 3G that the frequency of the radio should be either 850 or 1700 or 1900. The Galaxy Pro has non of those frequency. :\
Or it doesn't matter and the voice and text still works after 2016?Samsung T989D

Re: Smartphones With At&t 2G Network
Worst case, even if you write off all non-3G devices after 2016, those devices are going to be so antiquated it'll be ridiculous. By then you'll probably be able to by a Galaxy S 5 on eBay for twenty bucks.
