Finally made the move to a smart phone
My daughter pushed me into texting about a year and a half ago now she has decided I should be using a smart phone. She purchased an LG Optimus phone on sale for $69.99. I activated a plan from Kroger's iwireless (Sprint) for $25.00 a month which gives me 200 voice minutes, unlimited texting and 200mb of data, no contract. Seemed like a pretty good deal. It was an ordeal to get my T-mobile prepaid number moved over but finally got it done. I've been using the smartphone for a few days now and am pleased with the service and the use. I get a better signal in the house from the Sprint network than I did from T-mobile. A lot of options to use here but little by little I'll figure it all out.

Kroger's iWireless sounds very good.

Boy, I wish Gophone had a plan like that. Their $25/month plan is 250 minutes and unlimited text, but I have to add data. The trouble with the Kroger plan for me (and I have Kroger just south of me in the Richmond burbs) is that it isn't a bring your own phone plan and I like higher end hardware. But really, that is a nice plan.

Re: Finally made the move to a smart phone
Forgot to mention, I linked my Kroger Card to the iwireless account and for every $100 I spend I get a $2.00 discount on my bill. And the doesn't affect the fuel point earnings.

There's also the fact that it's limited to Sprint coverage. That's no problem in the city or the major suburbs of course, but if you set foot outside of Sprint's regular coverage area, you're hosed, since unlike a regular Sprint plan, prepaid options aren't allowed to roam on Verizon.

Re: Finally made the move to a smart phone
Lets see, how do I respond to this comment. Ummmm, perhaps us grownups are too busy paying for the young'uns college, and weddings, and loaning (giving) those smart phone using kids gas money, than to waste our time playing games, or texting, and tweeting 23 hours a day. Perhaps we only use or care about the technologies on the phone that are important to our daily lives.
Some of us (I happen to be 61) have been around the computer and smartphone technology long enough to have no problem with apps or texting, or anything else. You might even find, a few of us old farts might have even started some of these technologies. I don't think someone like myself, who programmed and coded since about 1976 or so, have any problem with texting.
That said, learn to respect your elders, before you get smacked up side the head and sent to your room.nuvi 765t, iPhone 5, Still waiting on BB10 phones to review. Primarily Mac focused, only using my PC's when dragged kicking and screaming.
