Xperia Sola or Xperia Ray for first time touch screen smartphone user
Hi all. I'm currently trying to choose my first touch phone (My current one is a Nokia N79, and I would like to replace it with one from the Xperia lineup.
I'm wondering whether I should go for the Ray (8MP camera with Exmor sensor really looks good since I love taking pictures plus its 294ppi display is something I find handy since I frequently watch videos on my mobile)
Or the Xperia Sola, with its larger screen plus nifty features such as NFC and dual-core internals.
Obviously, the Ray is cheaper than the Sola but does it hold its own against the newer Xperias or is the Sola the way to go nowadays. Any input would be gladly appreciated. Thanks.

Both have pretty nice body designs but I would go with the Sola. It has an edge in looks and the processing department, which makes it a bit more future proof and enjoyable to use. Plus the Sola will get updated to Android 4 Ice Cream Sandwich which is a must.

Re: Xperia Sola or Xperia Ray for first time touch screen smartphone user
Thanks for the reply Drillbit. I've been holding off the purchase since I found out the Sola has an embedded battery-which makes me a bit wary since I cannot replace it in the future if ever its battery loses charge. I am currently leaning on last year's Xperia Arc S since it has a removable battery. But should I give the Sola a shot (with its embedded one) or should I look for another mid-tier phone with a removable battery? I'm pretty anxious since my past phones all had a removable battery and just bought one after they lost their charge.

Usually by the time your battery gets really worn out, your phone might also be quite obsolete if not worn out.
The Arc S isn't bad, providing you get it really cheap. ICS updates have been pushed out for it. One good advantage is that it has a 4.3" screen. The disadvantage is that it has only a single core processor, even though its set at 1.4GHz.
The Sola uses a dual core processor, which makes it faster, but as you pointed out the battery is embedded. The screen is only 3.7" as well.I am @guamguy on Twitter.

Xperia Sola has dual core processor compared to Xperia Ray’s single core. More core processor means that multitasking is easy. Sola has higher internal memory capacity to store more photos and music. Even though Xperia Ray scores more with camera and battery, overall Sola is the best among the two.
