What best replaces Palm t|x?
I really liked my Palm T|x, but it is on the way out, the screen does not respond to the stylus.
I really liked the task list, where you could assign priority and due dates, and the contacts and calendar.
What currently available smartphone best replaces the T|X?

Re: What best replaces Palm t|x?
You could have your TX repaired pretty reasonably by Chris Short (there is a link on my Palm TX help page, linked in my sig).
My candidate for a non phone replacement is one of the Samsung Galaxy Players (there are two). You could also consider the iPod Touch, which is also a good PDA.
It will be a bit of a shock moving to any new platform. There are a plethora of 3rd party solutions to sort through to get most of what you wnat out of your PIMs. There are things the TX PIMs can still do better than any of them, but part of the trade off is you really do get some wonderful new capabilities (IMHO).
If you want a phone, the list is much longer and depends on your carrier as well. I'll let others handle the phone recommendations.

Welcome to Brighthand, wd3555
I very recently replaced my 5-year old TX with a Samsung Galaxy Player, the 5-inch version. My TX is fully functional, but it's not up to my needs anymore. As Hook said, switching to a new device and a new OS came as a hard shock, and it was a process that took me a full month to complete, so when you decide to change be sure to have good backups of your data in case something goes wrong. I'm very satisfied with the change, there are still a few things I can't do on my Player that I could easily do with my TX, but it's because the software to do them is not yet available and/or I haven't found a workaorund.
The Galaxy Player is a PDA, it does not have cellphone capabilities. I prefer to keep my cell and PDA as independent devices, that's why I chose this device.
If you want to fix or overhaul your TX, Chris Short is the way to go. Seems Hook's signature is offline, so here's the link: PalmDr. Chris offers excellent service at very reasonable prices.raspabalsa

Re: What best replaces Palm t|x?
Pretty much any Android phone will do what the OP wants. There are multiple apps available, and any Android smartphone should run all of them. It's much more about the OS than the individual device. For the specific device, find one that you like, and that fits your budget.

Hi,
I've converted from long time user palm. I use ipod since 2 yr ago and use iphone now.
Yes, moving from palm is a little bit paradigm shift. Especially from datebk users to Things, and from handyshopper to grocery. But, being open minded, I found there are plus minus there & here. Overall, I'm glad becoming convert.

I am running into the same quandary-- my flip phone is dying, and Sprint is not offering a lot in the way of replacement flip phones (I like being able to put a phone in my pocket once-in-a-while and feel certain it won't inadvertantly dial someone). Also Dngrswife wants to upgrade to a smart phone.

wd3555, I agree with what everyone has said above. My journey from almost 15 years of using Palm to Android wasn't as easy as many here. Besides the PIM abilities that Palm has over anything still available - going to Android left me without 2 very important apps that I used daily.
Of course now with Android there are many many more apps & things I can do with this that Palm never would have given me the possibility to use.
You have to look at your trade offs. The Palm TX can still serve a user very well for the things it does for many years ahead. Besides the browser not keeping up with all the newer web sites - the other downside I was beginning to have with Palm was receiving newer Microsoft Word docs that I couldn't open. Of course I could convert them on a PC from *.docx to *.doc and then bring it back to my Palm in a variety of ways - but that required extra steps. Fortunately many people are still using *.doc files and for some who had the newer Word I was able to either ask them to resend or have a standing policy that when they would send me Word docs to do so in *.doc formats.
If you are wanting a phone/pda I would get the newest & most powerful phone I could afford. I am disappointed at times due to speed with my phone to do simple tasks that we could do with Palms.
By the way - one of the things with I really enjoy about Android is the ability to use Graffti to write with. It is the first version of Graffti - but I perferred that version over what was available on the TX. Actually to write this post I'm doing it all with Graffti. I can actually write without always looking at the screen - which is nice to do as my wife is talking to me - I can look at her while writing - or if I'm at a seminar I can look and read the front presentation & write at the same time. This is important to me & keeps me out of trouble at times - lol.
It took me a while to try out as many PIM apps as I could find - but I have finally come to satisfaction to what I have & use. Talk has it that PocketInformant will have basically all the PIMs in that 1 app - but right now that's not the case. Here's what I have finally settled on:
Calendar - Google Calendar & CalenGoo app
Task - CalenGoo app has task that come into my daily calendar view & can sync with Google tasks. It's not as powerful but it shows up in my schedules & I can put reminder alarms to the task. You can't prioritize them as we did in Palm except via the date.
Address - Google Contacts
Memos - NoteEverything - which imports all your Palm Memos & categories perfectly. This also can be used for tasks - and some do - but it doesn't show up in your daily schedule. It does offer a ''sticky'' option that will put a certain memo you choose to be easily accessed by the top pull down.
Good luck in your pursuit. Brighthand is the best forum I've ever found with knowledgeable, patient & helpful people!

Re: What best replaces Palm t|x?
Well, I got a BOGO deal for a pair of Samsung Galaxy SII phones for me and the wife.
We will see how well it will replace the T|X, though I plan on taking my time with it.Civility, Substance, Subtlety, Style: Success

Re: What best replaces Palm t|x?
I posted in the "still using a TX" thread but now realize I probably should have posted here about my iPhone/GP5 combination as TX replacement. Oh well. I'll just refer ppl there for details and say that I find the iPhone to be a fine replacement with the only caveat being Apple's app restrictions.
