Default Verizon, Windows phone preference...now or wait?

My wife and I use Verizon, because they've got good coverage in southern Oregon (many carriers do not have good coverage here) and good customer service here in town. So I'd like to stick with them. I've never owned a smartphone before, but I'm starting to think about getting one.

Of smartphone OSes, I think I'd like a Windows Phone, because I like the look of the interface, because I use Zune to manage my music and have a subscription to their streaming service (which I understand also allows you to download music for free to put on a Windows mobile device), and because I've heard good stuff about how user-friendly the interface is.

Problem is, right now, Verizon's only Windows phone is the HTC Trophy, and I'm guessing from the $29 price tag that it's a second-tier product. But I don't know much about it, to be honest.

    So what should I do?

    (1) Wait for another 6 months or so and see if Verizon gets more Windows phones (particularly if Windows 8 drops this summer...do we have a firm release date?).

    (2) Get the Trophy.

    (3) Write off Windows phones and consider another OS.

Is that in the B&M store, or their website? if the former, check the website. and if there is a BestBuy or RadioShack nearby, they stock/sell for Verizon, so you can get (hopefully) hands-on time w/ other devices. Not sure what the B] review said about the device you mentioned. just my 2˘. good luck!

From what I have gathered there are two main problems and a couple of related ones. The main problems are:

    1) Verizon has shown little enthusiasm for Windows 7. I have no doubt that will change, but at Verizon change comes slowly. They also initially showed little enthusiasm for iPhone, although at the time it wasn't being offered to them.

    2) Verizon is unlikely to go for it until Windows Phone 7 is available on LTE models. This may in fact be being slowed by the fact that Nokia is the primary producer of Windows Phone 7 devices. I have no no doubt Nokia will produce LTE models, but it wasn't their first move.

The upshot is, if you are on Verizon, you are likely to have a long wait for a high end model, at least from what I am seeing out there. Maybe Ed has better information and can chime in here.

Windows Phone 8 will be coming out. I wonder if Verizon might pick it up?

Yeah, the lack of options really surprised me. I was hoping to at least look at the Nokia Lumia 710, but around here, it's a T-Mobil exclusive...and T-Mobil's coverage in southern Oregon is a farce.

The Brighthand review of the Trophy was really quite good--thanks for reminding me to pull it up. I love that it's solid-feeling and rubberized...I love that about my Kindle Fire instead of the slick metallic feel of my iPod Touch.

I like that the Trophy used to be relatively expensive ($150 with contract) and just got cheaper as it aged. I'd gladly take "outdated" over "built down to a bargain price" when it comes to phones.

Anyway, the Trophy looks like a really good option. Thanks for the feedback! Now I've just got to figure out if I want to get the Trophy now or wait for aWindows 8 phone.

Just took a leap of faith and got the HTC Trophy. Love the hardware; love Windows Phone. Couldn't be happier with my purchase

Absolutely. I'll use it for a week or so and then put a review together. It'll probably be a text review (maybe with pictures), not a video review, as I can't really do a video review of my phone without inadvertently showing personal information of me and my contact list.
