In fact, it occurred to me that this policy change (both policy changes in fact) are not a coincidence. Perhaps anticipating lots of iPhones going PAYG, they made it less attractive. I actually thought of this a few days ago and forgot to post it.

Meanwhile, T-Mobile wants to encourage them to jump ship by (somehow) promising them higher speed data.

Saw that in an industry newsletter. I confess I only read the headline. Think it was Fierce Wireless.

Don't see how until the LTE iPhones come along. They'll only get 2G on T-mobile. Their only choice will be something like Smart Talk which even provides the mini-sim card if you need it.

I've been using a locked Captivate on PAYG. They know about it, and they haven't griped. It was given to me by someone who was upgrading his device. I couldn't unlock it, even with AT&T and Samsung's help (don't know why), but was still able to use it on PAYG.

I think the iPhone was the only one they used to object to being used out-of-contract as a gophone. As mentioned in another thread, all things can be negotiable if you work with them.

Well, maybe not all things. This monthly plan thing doesn't seem to be, because it really doesn't offer sales reps discretion. That is where the negotiation becomes possible.

I have to say, they are really keeping this whole thing an incredible secret. Here it is, just short of a week before it goes into effect, and as far as I know the text some of us recieved is the only evidence. Even blog posts about it have only cited reports of the text message. I have yet to find any information about it on the AT&T Wireless or Gophone sites, even from within my account.

I think I'm going to give AT&T a call or visit in the next couple of days. It is an awfully strange way to do things.

I spoke to AT&T today. The had no good explanation for why there was no other information out there. They seemed curiously surprised that I had a text message about i-- not sure what was up with that. However, they confirmed it is true and will happen starting the 18th. The woman I spoke to was very nice and voluntarily elevated my concerns that this new change would be hurtful in my case and for others like me. She sent it p to tier 1 management, whatever that is.

I don't expect anything to happen because of that, but at least someone will get the message and it was nice of the CS person to take it on to do that without my even asking. Gophone has always had great CS.

I had to call CS about an unrelated problem (MMS not working correctly), and when we got that fixed, I asked the rep about data on the .10/min plan. He confirmed that it was true, and had no idea why some got the text, and others didn't.

Yes, as I noted in my other thread, it is very weird the way they are doing things. There is still no indication on any of their web pages that they are doing this. If you sign up right now for the 10 cents/min plan the TOS says you can buy data packages.

I rolled over my data today for a last 30 days, but after that I am giving up data, sad to say.

Assuming this does actually happen on the 18th, I'll do a new program summary update for this thread this week-end.

It's odd. I have auto renew on my text messaging and data. I deleted the auto renew on the text messaging, and just to see what would happen, I elected to auto renew my texting again. It gave me the option of auto renew on a 200 or a 1000 text package. I didn't go through with it, but it's curiouser and curiouser. I'll check tomorrow to see what happens.
