In this case, I have to agree with KSD. Think about just about ANY other form of media that reviews hardware (cameras, cars, TV's, stereo equipment, motorcycles, kitchen appliances, etc.) They usually have a data panel. It just makes sense. The reviews here are very variable. Sometimes the most basic stuff is left out.

Re: Specs Area in Reviews
I'm not saying this is the best possible soluition, but you'll notice that the first time we mention a device on each page of a review, the name is a link. That link takes you to a page with the specs listed.

Re: Sony Ericsson Xperia Play Review: Game On Discussion
The review template we used to use had a full spec sheet included in each review, right between the physical design portion of the review and the section about software and performance. This section got edited out when BH switched to a new template. I wasn't around at the time, so I don't know the exact reasoning, but I suspect that part of it may have been that many of the spec listings--connection ports, touchscreen, operating system, etcetera--were redundant from device to device, so more emphasis was placed on hitting the highlights and bypassing the rest, like pointing out that each device has a MicroUSB port.

Re: Specs Area in Reviews
Ed, I don't much care; but that's hardly a solution. That's like going back to saying Google it. I'm not saying the info isn't available elsewhere; but unless you're looking for cheap clicks, that's a clunky way to do it in my opinion.
Same with the pro-and-con summary. Sometimes it leads off (as it should) and sometimes it's at the end.

Re: Specs Area in Reviews
V, is that specs list in reviews on other sites kept updated when it changes? Like when a system software update is released. I do my best to update the specs page for devices when they change, but I can't go in and update every review.
Just as an example, if a review goes into an in-depth discussion about Android OS 1.6, it wasn't really practicle to change that when the OS 2.1 update was introduced. Having a spearate page with the specs on it is our soluition for this problem.

Re: Specs Area in Reviews
Is it too much trouble to copy and paste a "snapshot" of the current specs page into the review? You could provide a link to the spec page called "latest specs" but then people would be able to know what the specs were at the time the review was written and providing the link means you don't ever have to go back and update the review, you only have to update the specs page, same as always.

Re: Specs Area in Reviews
Ed, I don't think many reviews of hardware are about the OS. If the OS is significant enough, it probably warrants its own review. In the case of iPhones, where the OS and hardware are pretty inextricably combined, it might be a different story. Still, I think most reasonable people don't care if the OS is 'out of date.' That's solvable by having the line read: 'ships with OS xxx.' That's more appropriate for a hardware review anyway. And 6 months later, people shouldn't expect that to be updated anyway. If the hardware specs change, maybe than it warrants a new review, since they are likely to be substantial enough to be a new model.

Re: Specs Area in Reviews
I think it would be perfect if the spec page was just the last page. this way it doesn't interfer with the reviews its like ooo whats the spec? ah the last page covers it. Also side note again with the photos of products. Can we get decent wuality photos. these photos in reviews are marginally better than thumb nails
Also as someone else said with smart phones the hardware doesn't change. if it does its a new model and even if it did the review lets you know what the specs of review unit is anyways. Also the date keeps in check with accuracy of oh this unit had these spec than do maybe they are different.....anyways i honestly thing a single spec page at the end would be perfect
