Re: Updates for International Version
I appreciate the caution - I've more than a wee bit of that, myself!
If the upgrade was "un-doable," I'd jump in a try it with a full restore or some such, but since it can't be reversed, I'm reluctant to get into something that could turn into a massive project, at least until I have plenty of time. I'll see how this weekend goes, time-wise...
Thanks again, QF. You're still positioning yourself for that big Hero Award, aren't you?

Re: Updates for International Version
So I was digging around in Spb Backup a bit to see what sorts of things were there for restoring and I stumbled upon... "ROM Upgrade Mode" as a restore option. Of course, I went off on a little Google expedition to do some research... If that feature works as advertized (and there were mixed comments about it,) it would GREATLY lessen the pain of the WM6.5 upgrade.
Anybody have any experience with this?

Re: Updates for International Version
I've never tried that...but it sounds like it should work, based on the name alone.
Here's what I would do:
-Write down any special settings or information that may not carry over (PI themes and views, etc)
-Do a full backup.
-Do a PIM-only backup.
-Do a ROM backup.
Then do the ROM upgrade, and restore the ROM backup. If it sucks, try the full one, if that fails do the PIM one and then recreate from scratch (which sucks, I know)
Also, most database programs and money management programs let you export the information in them to excel or a similar file. Try that too, so if you do need to fresh restore you have your information handy.

Re: Updates for International Version
For that last thing, it sure would be nice to have the "Desktop overwrites..." option from Palm Desktop!
In reading various things about the "ROM Upgrade Restore" function, the mixed comments mostly indicated problems with using that on cooked ROMs. The vast majority indicated that with "official" ROM updates the "ROM Upgrade Restore" function worked wonderfully. A couple of 'em indicated a problem that was fixed with a second hard reset, followed by simply repeating the "ROM Upgrade Restore."
Apparently the current version of Sprite Backup has a similar, although barely mentioned, feature. Comments on its successful function, however, were less than glowing. In fairness, though, it seemed most of those complaints were from those flashing cooked ROMs.
I've put together a folder with all of my installation CABs, which I can stick on the (newly installed 16GB "Turbo" Class 6) card. Just in case... Still trying to decide if / when I'll get the time to dive into this.
Anybody else have suggestions / comments?
