Hello, stumbled onto this forum by searching for "Android Palm Emulator." That should tell you that there's certainly a market for it.

I thought about waiting for a Verizon Pre, but I worry that Palm has no future and I would be buying a device that won't have developers developing for it, which makes Android possibly a better choice. I haven't yet seen Android versions of many of the medical reference apps that I've been using on my Palm, and need a way to keep using them until there are enough developers to put out new software--hence the search for an emulator.

thanks for explaining your use case, this is really helpful.

You're still using Palm OS device because of your medical apps? And you probably do not want to carry around two phones..

So MA, what are you thinking so far? Is this making it past the "Things that make you go hmmm..." stage yet?

I'm feelin' the love here for some platform sprawl here! Though I have (and still do) wanted a Pre since first hearing about it I'm pretty sure seeing "Classic" for Android might alter my decision.

Yes, we’ve gone past that stage.

Actually, this was something that occurred to use before anyone mentioned it out there in “the real world”.

So talking about this with you guys here only reassures us that this is a valid option to consider.

We’re also thinking that Android should be the first pick on the draft for this.

When my Centro contact ends, I felt I might be stuck with a Pre. The Droid seems to be a better option for me. I really rely on syncing data to my computer so I am not one who would use Motion Apps until I found native apps that I liked. I always want to be able to sync with any smartphone/pda that I use. It is a must for me. Syncing to your computer seems to be a thing of the past. I can't keep my data in the cloud because there is no cellphone reception where I live. I also have 6 or 7 extra conduits like FileMaker Mobile that I need to be able to use.

It wouldn't be 2 phones, I'm using a Tungsten E2. Exactly, I'm trying to consolidate my dumb phone, my Palm (which always had medical apps beyond compare), and my MP3 player into 1 device...and I'm looking for something that isn't locked and closed (i.e. no iPhone)...and I'm not jumping to Sprint for a Pre. The existence of an emulator would make an Android platform a no-brainer, as things stand I'm conflicted....

Hi all. I, too, stumbled on this with a Google search string of "palm emulation for Android". I have never forgiven Palm for what became of its technical support and its refusal to create a Palm Desktop for a 64-bit Windows OS. I migrated to WM. But I don't really like WM: it's sloooow, cumbersome, unstable, and requires Outlook for decent functionality (which clashes with Groupwise, the corporate email system we use). I can't even use a WM alarm program to wake me up, as the alarm will not sound if the phone is being charged while in standby mode (it's a bug).

I still use my Palm T3 while traveling. My favorite travel apps run on it. The screen is nice and large. I can edit documents with my BT keyboard. I have an e-wallet on it, database program, list manager program, and have just installed a mapping program for a trip to Nicaragua (I can download the set of digital maps). Naturally, the link to an external GPS is smooth, unlike my efforts with WM.

The Droid would make a wonderful change from WM, but ... not a single quality PIM currently runs on it. Google maps are great, but I need a data connection, which I won't have outside the US. This is no problem with Palm or WM, as apps exist. I can't live without the Metro freeware that gives me subway routing. Not on Droid.

If I knew that I could use these apps on a Droid, I would switch tomorrow. I won't leave Verizon because the other carriers just don't have as good service.

I was also looking at the N900, but it has even less chance of getting the apps I need. And it will not be on Verizon.
