Default HTC Touch Pro: Any way to play decent video on the Redfly C8?

Has anyone found a way to just play a simple mp4 on the Redfly? I have the a/v cable and can play them on a TV, but it's frustrating that I can't actually watch one on the plane when I have this neat little terminal. Please help.

Is your device the C8N, or the original one, the C8?

If you have the video-out cable for your TV, then you can play video on a Redfly CAN. That's the version that came out last year.

I'm just trying to play MP4's, like NBC nightly news or the Today show, that I've downloaded to my HTC phone. I have the C8 model. Thanks for the help.

Unfortunately, the C8 does not support video. The Redfly doesn't do video at all when connected to the smartphone; the C8N has a video-out option that lets you watch video, but not while connected to your smartphone in viewer mode.

Does that make sense?

So if this doesn't work with the cellphone plugged in, what supplies the actual video file? Is there a 'non-viewer' mode where the phone just 'drives' the display?

Yeah, I smugly bought one on eBay thinking it would replace my portable DVD player and eliminate the need for a Netbook. Turns out it's basically an extremely hard to use $100 keyboard and not much else.
