Default Beta of Opera Mobile 10 Web Browser Released for Symbian S60

Opera has released a new beta of its Opera Mobile 10 web browser. This new release is compatible for mobiles using the Symbian OS.

Opera Mobile 10 for Symbian S60Opera Mobile 10 is the mobile adaptation of its desktop browser Opera 10. Both the desktop and mobile browser utilize the same core engine, which gives mobile devices the ability to share more features with its desktop counterpart.

Version 10 of Opera Mobile has several new features, including a redesigned interface which supports better touch and non-touch usability.

This browser also includes tab-based browsing with a slide show-like window to navigate the tabs, and support for the Opera Speed Dial startup page.

In addition, the new version offers support for Opera Turbo, a server-assisted browsing experience for faster page access regardless of connection speed. Opera Mini uses this same system.

Also on the feature list is a built-in password and login manager

Availability
Opera Mobile 10 for Symbian is compatible with most Symbian S60v3 (Nokia N95, N96, N82, etc.) and Symbian S60v5 ( NokiaN97, 5800XM, i8910, Satio) devices.

It is a free application while it is in this beta state.

Feedback for this release should be published on the Opera Community Forums.

For other devices, there is the Opera Mobile 9.7 Beta (Windows Mobile) and Opera Mini (Java-based) browsers available.

For more information and to download, visit the Opera website on a PC on mobile device.

Opera Mobile 10 already...on Symbian first?

This ought to placate those Symbian users moaning and groaning about being treated second-class to Windows Mobile users despite much larger overall phone marketshare. (Just read the comments on the Opera Mobile blog and you'll see what I mean.)

After a few days of play, I'm impressed. Not impressed at it exposing the low memory of my N97, but the speed and ability, and most of the UI decisions I like a lot.

In landscape, it doesn't know that I have the keyboard down, and therefore always shows the on-screen keyboard.

Using the Opera Turbo end of things does a number to image quality, but picks up the speed in most 3G-only browsing sessions.

I've only been able to get a few pages up before getting a memory error (I've got a few programs running in the bg that are higher priority than Opera). If they can address that aspect, I'd be quite impressed.
