Default Samsung Moment Now Available from Sprint

Sprint introduced its first Android-based smartphone, the HTC Hero, last month, and has quickly followed this with a second model running Google's OS, the Samsung Moment.

The Hero has a table shape, while the newly-released Moment is a slider, with an HVGA touchscreen and QWERTY keyboard.

Samsung MomentOne of the things that sets this new device apart from the pack is its AM-OLED display, a type that uses less power and offers better colors at wider viewing angles.

In addition, this smartphone is equipped with Sprint's mobile broadband service, Wi-Fi, and Stereo Bluetooth.

Android Inside
The Moment is debuting with Android 1.6, not the newer 2.0 version of Google's operating system. Still, this provides easy access to Google's mobile services: Search, Maps, Gmail and YouTube.  Plus, the Android Market make make additional applications, games, and widgets available.

It is equipped with Sprint services like Sprint Navigation, which provides turn-by-turn driving directions, and this carrier's exclusive sports applications.

Support for Outlook e-mail through push technology is included, and the handset offers access to AOL, Windows Live/MSN, Yahoo, and Hotmail email. In addition, the Moment lets users view Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents.

Naturally, it comes with players for music and video, as well as still images, as well as Android's highly-capable web browser.

Additional Hardware Features
A microSD slot allows storage of up to 32 GB of files (a 2 GB microSD card is included).

This smartphone also includes a standard 3.5 mm headphone jack, an accelerometer, GPS, and a 3.2 megapixel camera for still shots and video.

The Moment measures in at 4.6 x 2.34 x 0.63 inches and weighs 5.7 oz.

Sprint says the standard lithium battery provides up to 5.5 hours of talk time.

Pricing & Availability
Sprint is now offering the Samsung Moment for $180 with a two-year service contract and $100 mail-in rebate.

This device requires activation on a pricing plan offering unlimited data, which includes the Everything Data and Simply Everything Plans.
