Default Missing Sync connection problem (Mac)

A week ago my HotSync worked fine for both for my Mac and iQue using Missing Sync and for Palm Desktop running under VMware Fusion. Today only the HotSync on the virtual PC side works. I get the dreaded "The connection between your handheld computer and the desktop could not be established. Please check your setup and try again." Using System Profile I can see the iQue (as Palm Handheld) whether it is connected directly to a USB port on my iMac, through my powered hub, or through the keyboard USB port.

[Edit: I did close down VMware Fusion to make sure Windows wasn't grabbing the USB port. It wasn't.]

What am I missing? Thanks.

Ah--Never mind. After numerous restarts and swapping three(!) desktop cradles around, something is working. Repeatedly. I don't know why.

Kit,

I've been a computer professional for over thirty years and I know something most people only suspect:

There really are little green gremlins with a wicked sense of humour inside your computer.

They must work in cooperation with the support staff, though. Have you noticed how many of the disabling problems occur on the weekend? Especially just after the close of business on Fridays!

The green gremlins image really appeals to me. Our rains have begun and the moss is the thickest and greenest it has been since spring.

Trust me, they do not work in cooperation with computer support staff. Ever notice that when you call the support line everything suddenly starts working again? .... They know.....

Or everything the support folks ask you to do works, but that still doesn't solve your problem? .... They know......

Or the support staff help you get things working again .... but five minutes after you get off the phone .... They know.......
