Default Nokia N97 Mini Hitting Store Shelves

The Nokia N97 Mini was announced in September as a smaller version of the flagship N97 device. It has now begun showing in stores in various markets in Europe, and is also for sale though some the carriers.

This smartphone uses  the same general "slide-and-tilt QWERTY" design as the N97, but it excludes the directional pad and offers a smaller touchscreen.

Nokia N97 MiniThe N97 Mini is available for £430 from the U.K. Nokia store. Orange (UK) is also offering it for free with some contracts.

There has been no information about a North American 3G variant of this Symbian S60 cell phone.

An Overview of the Nokia N97 Mini
Despite its name, the N97 Mini is only slightly smaller than its big brother. It does have a smaller touchscreen, but at the same resolution: 640 x 360 pixels.

It also features less internal memory (8 GB vs. 32 GB), but still includes a microSD memory card slot supporting up to 16 GB cards. And the camera uses the 5 megapixel, Carl Zeiss Tessar lens, auto-focus and flash also found in the N97.

Built in support for Nokia Messaging, Ovi Contacts, Ovi Maps, and the Ovi Store tie the N97 Mini to Nokia's service offerings while also enabling other 3rd party software to be easily downloaded and installed.

The Price seems high, unless I'm missing something. That's about $700 US. The N97 is 449 pounds in the U.K. and already about $570 US. I know the price will drop (clearly that is Nokia's pattern), but I would have expected it to start out closer to $500.

Don't expect the price to be the direct exchange equivelant, that's not always the case with Nokia's devices. Expect something around $400 if it is offered here as a NAM version.

I have just heard off Orange customer Service that they will NOT be stocking the N97 mini because of software issues. Does any one know if there is any truth in this?

Dubious note, do you have a link to a release or customer service item detailing this information?

It's expensive now, but usually Nokias get discounted in the longer run. Probably after the Christmas season.

I just spoke to a young lady at their (Orange) upgrades dept. and that is what she told me.
