Now we get all the manufacturers gin=ving us the reasons why they aren't going to offer upgrades on the devices they sold to us less than a month ago.
Heck it isn't like I expect an upgrade... but it would be a nice move... especially considering that the hardware hasn't improved since WM2003SE at all.

This year might be the year I upgrade. I was waiting for the following.
1. New PPC Phone hardware.(w\blue tooth fixed)
One good out(6600) and one on the way(I730). Of course they must be loaded with Mobile 2005 first
2. Bandwith to increase according
EVDO
3. Mobile 2005 release(w\bugs fixed)
We will see how long this takes
4. Decent Upgrade path.
MS had disscussed getting upgrade directly from MS not the device supplier. Will Mobile 2005 support that fuctionality and is that the project path after it release.
THis should be all worked out by the end of the year.

The information on this is preliminary. Last I heard, Microsoft was trying to add this feature to WM05, but there was no word on whether it would succeed.
Also, I'm not sure if this means that the entire OS could be upgraded, or simply smaller pieces, e.g. a new version of Media Player coming directly from Microsoft and not Dell.

It doesn't seem likely to be the whole OS unless MS is putting more stringent constraints on the OEMs. I think this would be a bad idea and may risks stifling innovation. Not there is much out there to stifle.
There will probably in the least be a later that sits right on top of the hardware including drivers and such.
But I would think that even the OEMs would welcome this feature. I'm sure it would reduce the time to market and make OEM customizations easier.

I would glady take one at a time(less the over all OS)
Word
Excel
IE explorer
Media player
Drivers(USB,WiFI,BlueTooth stacks)
This sound great to me. MS just make it happen and you could count me in on a new device this year!!!!!!!

Already seen
I have already read a review of WM 2005 (beta for some PPC PE that was probably given to the wrong person who gave it to the wrong person....etc.) There were tons of screen shots. I can't remember where it was "Mobile...something".
It looked nice. The colors were more subtly overbrushed. The substance was about what we've all heard. New support for faster exchanges in BlueTooth and such. New core OS. A lot of the changes were beyond my interests. New Word, Excel, now presentations support. Still not up to the level of desktops or format retention of POS office suites. The most important advances for me were absent.
I would want it to be absolutely bulletproof. A year or more of testing on actual models before final release with bugs lower than Unix levels. The flash RAM support may help as it survives even hard resets.
The other highly subjective feature desire I have is also not included. I would love to have interactive spell checking everywhere and maybe even a grammar check in Word. (OH, and Pocket Word gets renamed Word Mobile, etc.)
Wish I could recal where I read all that. At least I know I didn't read it here. How embarassing that was last year when I got several pages into a thread and Ed had to point me to the place I had read something.....right in the lead article I was commenting on. I can be so dense some days. That is why I need that spell/grammar checker.

There were a couple of sites that got a hold of this. By and large, Microsoft closed them down with extreme prejudice. That's why the report I did was light on details, but (I hope) gave people a flavor of what was coming.

Darn and I just updated the ROM, again, on my Axim x50v to A03. If the earlier speculation about Dell is correct, I may have to upgrade my ROM yet again. But I expect it would be worth it for a better office suite with PowerPoint. Wouldn't that be a hoot, if econoDell showed up HP once again with a liberal policy for free ROM updates?

ppc2005 is very interesting, but one thing that it has to have in order for me to buy a ppc05 device is a VGA browser.
