Default Brighthand Reviews Astraware's Mazera

Mazera is somewhere halfway between a puzzle-solving game and a role-playing game. It offers hours of fun as you try to escape from an alien world by solving hundreds of puzzles.

I thought it was cute, and it looked and played fantastic on my Clie TH55.
Back when it came out.

What ended up happening was that it pushed me to simply pick up a Game Boy Advance SP, because what I realized I wanted to play was Zelda, or Final Fantasy and it just isn't happening (worth playing) on a Palm OS machine.

That's just me.
As many know, the TH55 isn't a gaming powerhouse, so your milage will no doubt vary.

There's a Pocket PC version of this game, too. I think you'd be much better off running it than an emulated version.

Default Just curious...

... as to how long this game lasts?
Are there additional sidequests? Would I want to come back to play it later? I would consider paying this amount for a game that will last maybe around 20 hours. Is it at all challenging for an adult?

Of course, how long the game takes depends on how quickly you figure out the puzzles. I would say 20 hours minimum, because this world is really huge.

There's a secret area you can discover, but I'm not sure whether I would call that a side quest.

Yes, it is certainly challenging for an adult, especially as you get farther along in the game.

You'll be revisiting areas and maps after you made headway to progress like a typical adventure game. You'll get a good 20 and even 30+ hours from this game. Unfortunately, that's it. I was enticed to play this a 2nd time just to see if I could improve my time with less deaths, but otherwise, that's roughly it. There are some "extras" described below, but it ain't that much. If you're really interested in getting this game but are turned off by the $30 price tag.... you should consider checking in on Astraware's site from time to time and wait until they a promo on it. First one was for it's pre-release for only $20. They had another one recently.... several weeks ago that was half off at $15. Be patient and another one will roll around.

Well, there are mini games that you can replay.....

No sidequests really. Assuming you start the game and shoot straight to reaching the end ASAP, there's also:

-exploring every block of all 5 maps
-5 compass pieces to discover to unlock secret map
-secret map to explore, filled with fun end game gags
-mini games tht you can replay.

Thanks for the advice and review, Ed and Ackmondual! I haven't yet jumped on this, but sounds like I'll be hanging around the astraware site every so often now.

Interesting site came to my attention. Like the TechBargain site for PDA stuff. It looks liek they've got discounts on some popular stuff as well as new stuff.

http://www.pdaoffers.com/

Note that they've got Mazera for pOS and PPC for -$10 off. So if you get it through there, it's only $20. If you're really patient, you could wait out even more until Astraware has a half off sale ($15). OK, im not 100% sure about a half off sale, but fairly certain. These promos directly from Astraware normally come during the holidays.
