Thumbs down Wow!

Let's see. It's too big to fit in a pocket and not big enough to replace a laptop.
It is far more expensive than any PDA or even a much better configured laptop. It won't replace my phone. What is it?

The prototype is not even a working prototype, just a mockup.

I have seen models like this so many times now, it is silly. And it won't be available untll 2007+. Waste of a front page story.

I like the idea. It looks like something I could carry around the house, and use to browse the web from any room. A laptop is too cumbersome for that purpose, and a PDA doesn't have a big enough screen.

Not a bad idea, here is what I would be looking for.

1. Decent processor, we all know how well low-end processors do with the WinXP family... I'm thinking 1.4 GHz Intel Pentium M (good power consumption to ability compromise)

2. If you must have an HDD in the device than have one with a NVRAM Flash component so that it can take advantage of Longhorn's ability (as reported so far) to suspend to flash and come back instantly.

3. Good battery, at least 4000 mAh Li-Polymer.

4. Good Screen (SVGA at least)

5. By 2007 we had better have at least UWB built in, hopefully WiMax also.

6. Decent graphics subsystem... I know it will never be a gaming machine, but I would mind playing a few rounds of CivIII or AOW2 on it.

WHOA! Tell me I'm crazy, but the closer I look at this "Ultra Mobile 2007 Concept" device that Bill is holding ... it looks like Palm OS!

Cobalt finally comes. Now I know why they included that 960x480 resolution. Wooohooo!
