As I understand it it's not "punching holes" in a film, but rather using tiny applications of heat from the write-heads, "dimpling" the nano-dimensioned film. This low-temperature deformation is said to be operable through a great many re-write cycles at ambient temperatures up to 45 degrees celsius, perhaps higher. I guess dimpled is 1 where un-dimpled is 0, from what I could make out of the various postings on the subject. The exact means of moving the rods/heads is something beyond my understanding so far. Small stuff! And the talk is of 10 layers or more...
