Arrow A Preview of Windows Mobile 2005

A beta of the next version of Windows Mobile has leaked out. This shows that almost every application, control panel, and dialog box in the operating system will be improved in some way.

wow, looks like MS offer their own bluetooth stack, good news for Toshiba users... (if we are getting the upgrade). Personally, I realy doubt any of the current modem will get the upgrade.

Currently, Pocket PCs use RAM for both storage and to hold currently running applications. In the upcoming version, RAM will only be used for running applications. Flash ROM is where all application and file storage will happen.

Did anyone else just hear an explanation as to why the iPaq 4705 has such a funky memory configuration?

HP did upgrade their top of the line last time around. e.g. PPC2002 - 2003

It?s completely understandable why they didn't do it with Second Edition. Its a minor update.

So I'm thinking yes. But only on their top of the line.

Call it wishful thinking but I think they will offer an upgrade of some form.

HP most probably will offer the upgrade for hx4705 and some other models. I never blame HP for not offering upgrade of SE. SE is only a VGA version of WM2003, so only the VGA device (e800) got the upgrade.

The Toshiba E400 series is not a VGA device, and it also go upgraded for free.

This all sounds pretty boring to me. It would have been nice to see a more significant browser update with support for tabs. I would have also expected some UI improvements, or at least some eye candy. IMO, the past year has been pretty bad in terms of software improvements for both the Palm OS and PPC platforms.

And people wonder why growth in the PDA market has slowed. WM 2005 won't be reason enough for me to upgrade. The Tungsten E2 specs and this WM story confirm my decision not to buy any more PDAs.

windows xp has just a few improvements over windows 2k. just try to tell us you're never going to buy another pc.

as operating systems mature the changes between versions get smaller. it isn't a sign that innovation has gone away it just means that fewer improvements are needed.
