HTC needs to be given some kind of an award by the industry. i hope this latest product rakes them in boatloads of cash, they deserve it. in such a stale PDA market they continually shine.

the now legendary "icon status" 1900/4100 iPAQ series.

HP drops them them and favor their own design team, then HP latest line gets trounced by the critics. HTC designs for Dell instead and makes the feature packed/beautifully designed X50v, which has been praised for it's form factor over & over in a world of mostly VGA PPC bricks.

and now the MDA IV, a truely unique product. loaded with features, almost no sacrifices. which is even more unusual in the PDA/phone world.

maybe Ed should right an article about these guys and their stellar achievments. so even more people can associate the HTC name with their Grade A status in this industry.

This thing is absolutely jam-packed, hopefully it's not too expensive.

it's about the same size as the HP 4700 and Toshiba 800/830. not bad at all, considering this is a phone & a "full" PDA. with a clamshell design, swivel design, keyboard, 2 camera's, etc. sounds like to me the HP/Toshiba are to "big".

honestly, i think the cuellar capabilities are more for people who want a PPC with internet everywhere, not to much for phone calls.

I was comparing this thing to my ipaq 4350- it's a touch shorter, but a bit wider and thicker, so I made a paper box about the same size. It's really quite manageable, actually, especially for that feature set- I'm amazed that they could fit it all in, personally.

I don't think it's too big either, considering there are no VGA PDA's with built-in keyboards.

This is also one of the few smartphone units that have GSM, Wifi, and Bluetooth.

There are no existing PDA's or cell phones with 2 cameras either (not that this is a big deal or anything.)

But this unit has all of the above.

The two-cameras thing is a bit odd, I bet they could have done a nice camera in a swivel "pod" that would be able to point out to take photos, or toward the user for videoconferencing. The thing is jam packed, so I wonder which would take up more space: the swivel pod, or the second camera?

Default Misleading headline

I can't believe I registered in order to complain, but here goes. The headline states Carrier Confirms Details on First Clamshell Pocket PC Phone. The first PPC claimshell is, of course, the Motorola MPx. Where have you been?
