Ugh. I personally think that it's ridiculous to be able to get a patent for "screens that fold in the middle." especially if the technology to actually make it is "still in the lab." Patenting a specific method of folding a screen is one thing, but not the idea of doing it. Whatever happened to the notion that you can't patent an idea, anyway? I hope that they don't just sit on the idea while denying other people the right to make such a device because of this overly broad patent.
I personally have thought about such a device with a folding LCD, and believe that it would be the logical next step for full mobile "PCs" over the next several years. Systems like the OQO still have screens that are too small for the job of running a full system IMO, something like 1024x760 or higher resolution would possible with a foldout-screen though, and woudl not compromise the portability of the unit.
