Wouldn't an 3-4 GB sd flash card be cheaper and faster?

Yes, but 2 GB is as big as SD cards get now. Of course, it'll be a long time before anything like this microdrive SD card hits the market, and higher-capacity SD cards could be available by then.

However, I think microdrives have the potential to increase in capacity faster than flash memory does. You could get a 4 GB CompactFlash microdrive long before you could get a regular CompactFlash card with that same capacity, for example.

In a few years, Toshiba could easily be making an .85 inch microdrive that can hold 40 GB. I suspect this will happen long before you will be able to get a 40GB SD card.

Does Toshiba consider this to be a "disposable" product? They warrantee their other SD card products (eg. BT, WiFi) the same as blank floppy discs, and cardboard disc mailer envelops.
