If it's like any other PC-device (like the Sony U50/U70), we should be able to install XP Tablet Edition without too many problems.

It took about 3 weeks and crafty U50 hackers figured out how to get English TOS installed.

For the time being, the PenOffice software has been fairly accurate and many folks have commented positively on it.

Looks like a price increase to $2000/unit. Nuts.

What happens if I always put an XP device such as this into standby, sleep mode, or hibernation instead of turning it off and rebooting it all the time.

I imagine it will use some battery power while "off," but otherwise is this OK as a regular practice?

Of course, that's the standard practice with Tablet PCs - turn it off if you won't be using it for a long time, otherwise ibernate or standby it..

This is the biggest weakness to the OQO--2-3 hour battery life.

The CTO assured users that this in enough when the device is used "sparingly" and placed in standby.

The problems are:
- The 2-10 second wake from suspend time
- "Sparingly" is a very loose term, but all I know is that without thinking, I use 5-9 hours of battery life easy before recharging. I use secondary (ultrabay2000) batteries in my Thinkpads and an external power pad for the extra juice...we live in an unplugged society (wires blow--Wifi, power, anything with a wire...).

From my experience:
Hibernation saves the most battery, but wake from hibernation takes 30-60 seconds on most notebooks and laptops because the system is reviving previous state from disk.

Standby/suspend economically pulls battery life and has a very short wake from suspend since the previous state was saved to memory and battery is drained maintaining that saved state in memory.

On another note, when I get mine I'm going to try to replace the tiny 20Gb Hdd with a 2.5" 60Gb hdd I have. I may make a partition for Fedora Core 3 linux.

I'm guessing that the firewire port may be bootable with a CD, CDRW, or DVDRW firewire drive (the U70 is and I have a Sony DVDRW firewire drive). We'll see.

Here's a confirmed bootable drive link for the U50/U70, so I suspect one will be out for the OQO shortly.

Hibernate uses no power all all, standby does but very little.
