Very Small Smartphone May Be Available in the U.S.
The FCC has given its approval to another Windows Mobile smartphone, the Audiovox SMT5600. When this device debuted in Europe over the summer, it created quite a stir because of its very small size.

miniSD is a deal breaker for me: anything outside SD of CF is banned here.
There's NO WAY I'll invest in another card format, especially since I can't put an SD card in this!!
I don't care if the reverse is possible, as long as I can't use with this device the cards I already invested in then it's a NO GO
miniSD does NOT offer a significant size gain over standard SD. So the same device with an SD slot would be insignificantly larger at most and possibly the same size.
Think tri-dimensional and you'll see that the size difference between both formats is insignificant compared to the overall device volume

Phone and memory card manufacturers have conspired to force their new mini card formats on consumers. The obvious reason is to increase profit margins on memory cards.

I should start a new awareness website about boycotting miniSD and RS-MMC and the like cards to make it known to users about all the inconvenients in using and therefore endorsing these technologies that offer a lot more bad points than advantages.
Anybody wants to join me?

You have to take the cover off and remove the battery to deal with the card on this phone.
That's something I won't be doing often, so the type of card really doesn't matter to me.
Looks like if it's Windows Mobile 2003, it's miniSD. (Moto MPx220 is the same way).

Well the newest Samsung SCH-i600 DOES have a regular SD/MMC slot, so it's perfectly possible.
Plus it's encased in a more sexy clamshell body...

FWIW, even though Ed just reviewed it, the i600 isn't new -- it's almost a year old.
I think all but one or two of the WM Smartphones that have come out (or are coming out) this year are all miniSD.
