The excuse seems to be valid. From aximsite, the new VGA dell X50 won't be available until next year because of unavailablity of LCD.

I'm quite sure the *real* reason for the delay is that HP is busy finalizing the WM2003 SE update release for all existing iPAQ owners

Here is an interesting article relating to the LCD problems in general and how an expected increasing demand in LCD TV's hasn't materialized and will result in a glut of LCD availability for other products.
