Arrow More Evidence Toshiba Exiting Handheld Market

New signs now indicate that Toshiba will stop offering its handhelds in Europe. There were strong signs earlier this year that Toshiba appears be pulling out of the U.S. market.

What style? Only - like - 2 PPCs ever had anything resembling 'style'. Tosh was pretty good at innovation - i guess. Certainly not a Sony but better than the rest of the pack. I agree with the articles assessment - it will come down to 2 big players because this market isnt big enough to support the 30-something odd PPC manufacturers and half-dozen Palm OS device manufacturers.

Style does not have to reflect beauty,

E570 smooth simple first dual expansion functionalty easy on the eyes

E550G first 4 inch screen smooth sleek

E740-55 was the size of a 3800 series Ipaq but had twice the functionality.

We can go to the E800 or E400 but I am already over 2 examples

So Toshiba's exit leaves an opportunity for another manufacturer to attempt to provide style, etc.

I don't seem to recall that Toshiba was / is the sole source of "style", etc.

Maybe a new manufacturer will attempt to improve on other areas of the business where Toshiba was not performing "optimally".

I don't have much to say on this other than that with Toshiba leaving the market I hope they take their poor customer service with him.

In the interest of being fair I guess I shoud add that Toshiba has done important things for the PPC market also, like the e80x. Hopefully innovations will still come even has the market becomes smaller.

Yup, Toshiba had so bad a customer service that they are well known for it.

However, recently they had got better with the innovation in the e805 and the free WM2003SE patch (I hope that companies like HP and Dell is tuning in). I must say again that I like the e805 and would been waiting for the updated version if they put in a 624mhz chip (but they didn't).

I think that this is way to go which is to offer superior customers service and aftercare and we would come back to you.

However it is sad to see Toshiba go as they are getting their act together. Life is a joke sometimes.

HP sucks in not issuing the SDIO patch for the h1910 series for fear of losing sales. And Dell sucks for their customers support people who speak hard to comprehend English...... hee hee........ There is no perfection in life. Only with the Lord.

I have to agree with the past history of there customer service but some have contended it has been getting better.

But I think your AVATAR is extremly bad tastes, racist and promoting Nazis. I don't know but maybe you have watched one to many Michael Moore propaganda cartons.

I know it is an election year but can we keep the politics off this board.

*I* don't think it promotes Nazis. The whole point (I think) is that he disaproves of Bush, and so depicts him as a Nazi. Doesn't make it sound like a compliment.

I don't see the racist part, unless you mean the whole Nazi thing. In that case, you left out anti-semitic too.

I'd agree that it's in questionable taste. My mom was a 14-year-old teenager in Holland when the Germans invaded, so I am aware that there are people who don't like seeing *any* reference to Nazis.

FYI: I hadn't even noticed his avatar until you pointed it out. I think that you (and now I) have done more to bring politics onto this board.

Let's all make peace and not war........

Come come, let's talk more about pdas........

And here's the part......... when is e830 coming out? I would really like to see that device......

Hmm..... this 2 weeks is kinda of slow with no major new devices coming out. No reviews. I had read the X30 reviews so many times that I feel sick..........

Come on HP already..... where's the hx4700 going to hit the market?
