There'll Be No Xbox Portable

The head of game content for Microsoft has made it clear that his company has no plans to release a portable gaming device. Instead, it will encourage game developers to create titles for Windows Mobile.

Keep an eye out on the Gameboy Advanced DS. It's rumered to have dual screens, one of them a touch screen plus wifi including I.M. ablilities. Nintendo is supposed to annouce more info on it within the next month.

Ed, Tiger Telematics is due to release the Gametrac this fall. It's a Windows CE (.NET I'm pretty sure) portable game console. It doesn't have a touchscreen or thumbboard, so it looks to be aimed more at portable gaming and entertainment (MP3, videos, etc.).

I'm still surprised that no one has created a PPC "version" of the Zodiac. I've been told that a 640x480 PPC device was demoed at the recent Game Developers Conference (GDC) and am hoping to have more details and photos of it once my "unofficial Tapland reporter" finishes his writeup of the event. As such, at this point in time I don't know if it was a new PPC device optimized for gaming, or simply a "regular old" new PPC device that was playing a game on it (the difference being in the design and layout of the D-Pad and buttons).
