A Sneak Peek at Two Upcoming ASUS Pocket PCs

ASUS is planning to release two Pocket PC models in 2004. The MyPal A8100 will be a Phone Edition device, while the My Pal A716 will offer both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

it's a type. the screen resolution is 240x320

Well ... a slew of dual slot/WiFi/BT devices were announced 3-4? months ago - Mitac Mio, Pansonic, Loox, etc.

Of these the only one that seems to have reached the light of day is the Mio 558. Unfortunately, after some bad initial benchmarks it seems no one in US has one of these and/or is willing to talk about it on Brighthand or other PPC boards.

I say - let's start bringing PPC with these feature on.

Sure hope this device is available in 1st qtr 04 and please, please, please say it has the following:

1. BT v1.2 and as such supports simultaneous BT and WiFi ops.
2. Good gaming buttons/controls and fast chip (like the ASUS 620)
3. Decent front side speaker (at least as good as old Casios)
4. Full size head phone jack
5. Decent US customer support

USB port of some sort (mini, USB OTG, etc), 128MB mem, and VGA resolution would be even sweeter, but hey I can live with the first five and be VERY happy for quite a while.

Maybe if they start producing these types of systems and small BT equipped phones (with reasonably priced data plans) that compliment them the "flat" PPC market will disappear quickly.
