This should (in part) answer the questions of those who'd asked why Hp and others are not making the OS upgrade available as a download... Sad how a few bad apples delay things for everyone else perfectly happy to play by the rules and to be good citizens.

Boy, that was fast... almost makes one afraid that some crazed angry software house will release a version of their stuff (or others') with virus embedded, or something to strike back at fileshareres.

Deep Green,

It has already happened. An NES emulator (PC based) author released a hacked NES emulator that deleted files (for those piraters), and there was that Liberty PalmOS Gameboy emulator fiasco where the same thing happened as revenge against pirates, but also hurt some scrupulous users.

Hey Mark,

Thanks for the info! I knew I'd heard of this somewhere before but couldn't place it exactly.

Default 28 MG "Patch"

This is the first thing I thought of when I heard the "patch" would be 28 meg. That is the whole OS. So, of course, users would find a way.

I think this also shows how easy it is to do an upgrade and that Toshiba is just not trying very hard to do so.

I think that Tosh should do an upgrade, too -- but what in this thread gave you the idea that it would be easy?

Please!

Go read the forums over at Aximsite.com - the problem is that the patch doesn't work for a large portion of users. This looks more like Dell covering itself after releasing faulty software once again.

Dell is just using the "hacker" problem as an excuse. In truth about 50% of the legitimate people who tried to apply the patch failed.
