...until a .NET version of Pocket PC is completed -- expected in two to three years.
But the image at http://msmobiles.com/articles/pocket...eedition/4.gif shows Windows CE 4.2, which is part of the Windows CE.NET family - IIRC, CE 4.1 became .NET compliant - CE 4.0 was missing a few things.

Hrm....

Default Pentium III???

One of those screenshots on msmobiles shows the device is powered by a Pentium III. Thats strange. Perhaps the software is running on a PC via emulation? Would expect the hardware would be emulated too, though and show up as Xscale...

its the SDK, they're running it on a PC through the emulator. That's why its showing up as Pentium III.

On a side note, doesn't that little game they call "Jawbreaker" look exactly like Bubblets?

I guess Microsoft gobbled up another company?

Except that it doesn't say Windows CE 4.2, it says Pocket PC 4.2. Of course, being an MS MVP, I'm sure what you say is accurate, so there's no need to be coy, just come out and correct him.

I was all set to be fairly disappointed in the next version of the PPC OS, but if these pictures are accurate, it looks like I may have set my hopes too high. Still the same crummy little "OK" button? Still the same smart-minimize button? Task switching should have been built-in to the OS. Come on now! I suppose they may have integrated it into the smart-minimize button (though, they should have changed the icon, IMO, if they did).

I must admit, also, that I was expecting them to dress up the GUI and make it look more XP-like. Not something that impresses me, but I was surprised to see the same flat 2D interface.

What I want to know is whether they worked out an arrangement with the developer of Bubblets and rebranded it (which seems unlikely) or if they actually spent development resources on developing a Bubblets clone. If the new version of the OS comes out and significant bugs (e.g. - recurring alarms) and other needed improvements aren't there but an MS developed clone of Bubblets is, that will just be pathetic.

Sad thing is that I don't think that Bubblets was copyrighted because it was shareware.

This is somewhat disappointing. We knew that PPC2003 would just be an updated version of 02 with some fixes, but I guess I was hoping for some more goodies. Maybe there's still hope that there will be some surprises in the standard (non-phone) edition. Probably not though...

AFAIK shareware is copyrighted.

OTOH there are about 4-5 Bubblets look-alikes out there.

I DO hope that the bugs (IE displaying pages a little funny, etc.) have been squashed.

But alas!! it'd be a miracle if MS did bring us a better P.Word (doc round tripping without zapping formatting!!!)

I was planning to create a new thread a bout this PPC.03 vs CE.NET question; it's coming now, I see.

Who knows it all and are not under NDA?!

Will it be worthwhile to upgrade to PPC.03 (if at all user upgradeable)?! How much ROM will be required?
