Since the WiFi chips on the H5450 are supposedly modular, now all we need is some enterprising company to make a replacement module that uses GSM/GPRS or CDMA/1xRTT, packaged with Pocket PC Phone Edition.
I wonder if it's possible, though it's probably not probable.

Thumbs down Terrible!

This is the ultimate solution for me. I want to have everything in one device. I hate to carry many different devices. I was hoping just to carry just the ipaq and a bluetooth headset. I was not happy with pocketpc phone that are out right now. I want to be able to use my 5 GB drive.

I think I will finally be jumping ship to whoever will come out with a combo device.

Someone is bound to licence TI's WANDA reference design at some point - BT, WiFi and GPRS all in one...

Damn, it's too bad it isn't coming it... it might have been the fullest featured PDA to date and would have been nice to see a big company launch off the PDA/phone industry.

I guess it is a matter of looking at the way the market is being segmented.

While it is a cool neat feature to have a PDA phone combo, it tends to get too bulky and I think the 56xx kinda moves away from industry trends to get smaller slimmer sexier machines.

Also, there is the issue of how much Joe Public will be willing to pay for such a combined unit. Phones are already subsidized in some countries where they can be had for free or close to free with a contract for 1-2 years.

This will require a change in the way companies like Toshiba/hp/Dell and other PDA companies do their business and handle their channels.

I have seen the new MS SmartPhone and gotta admit it actually looks pretty nifty. It is actually far more snappy in response than my current Sony Ericsson P800. Dunno abt stability tho

So... if HP is scrapping this, come the 2200 they will have a midrange Pocket PC and that is it... I wonder what highend ppcs they will come out with next?

I say, Bring Back the Jornada!

That was my first thinking ditto duncan. There are some interesting mixed (802.11 + Bluetooth + GSM/GPRS/CDMA....) wireless solutions offered by various companies these days. Maybe some of it is hype or even vaporware but others aren't. But it can be done....

To integrate all these wireless options into one device can be a tough development. The cost effect is/could also a barrier imho.

Next questions....are consumers into buying these devices and willing to pay the price for it.?????

Wireless is HOT so i hope and think costs of integrating these various wireless options into devices will come down......rather sooner then later.

Unhappy

Sad to hear this, I was hoping that the rumours I was getting would materialise. At least now I can stop thinking about when I would be buying the 56xx!

Next question in line is, when would HP release an updated iPaq 54xx, one with the new Xscale processor?

Question iPaq H5450 and Gsm/Gprs Wireles Jacket...

Has anyone any news about when (or IF... ) the iPaq Gsm/Gprs Wireles Jacket will be done compatible with the H5455?

And, I really fear that the launch of the H1910 and H2200 will sign the beginning the end for the iPaq modular design (the main reson, IMHO, to choose an iPaq over other PPCs...
