Arrow Color Palm OS 5 Device Coming from WebLink Wireless

WebLink Wireless is going to release later this year a handheld with an “always-on” wireless connection that will compete with the RIM Blackberry.

NOW THIS IS INTERESTING!! When Weblink 1st anounced teh monochrome H500, I think the overall reaction was a rather subdued ho-hum. But this new device seems to overcome all the previous misgivings. I think this will be a very nice option for those those who want a "data-centric" always-on device with reliable converage. It will be interesting to see what kind of data plans weblink will offer!!

Default About the picture

I did a mockup of what the H500 might look like and added it to the article. Basically, it is a picture of the monochrome version with a color screen pasted onto it. This isn't necessarily how the final version will look.

Default much better

thank god their going with a color screen. if they'd gone with mono it would be the only os 5 device that is not color. palmsource should make it a requirment of os5 lisensees that the devices be color - death to monochrome lcd displays!.

I love this idea, I always wanted a wireless pda just for data no voice but the treo coverage is horrible in my area, I wonder who will supply the coverage for them. Can't somebody get hooked up with Verizon, they have the best coverage in my area.

Weblink Wireless owns its own network. Here is the coverage map:

My pet peeve:
Quote:
It uses Internet Protocol (IP), so devices utilizing the ReFLEX network have access to email and the Internet.
Both email AND the internet? Wow!

Bugs me when the Web is made equal to the Internet. The internet is so much more than the web!!

I wonder what the actual data transfer rate is...

The coverage isn't bad in my area of MI, but now its a matter of the plans they offer and if it is affordable or not.

So have there been any news updates on this device? I recall reading that Weblink said there would be a device available by around September 2003? Is that still the case or what? You can even find a reference to the H500 on Weblink's stie AFAIK? Has this device been cancelled?
