Default Not a real picture

Just so we're clear, I made that image in the article based on written descriptions of the device. All I did was erase the antenna off a Tungsten W. It isn't a leaked image.

Just cancelled my TG50 order. I HAVE to see what Palm SG has up its sleeve first. You never know, it could be a category killer.

Remove the thumb-keyboard, put in a 320x480 screen, and seel it at $400.00 and you got a buyer.

I can't believe some of what you included in this article as "legitimate" rumor (if those words can go together).

The only thing that has been half way verified is:

1. Palm has said something is coming soon
2. A Tungsten C is in Staples inventory system @ $499
3. The new unit will sport OS 5.x
4. Palm has signed a contract for Intel processor based handhelds

This junk about a 64 meg wireless unit is PURE crap. Nothing has been found from the FCC on any forthcoming wireless unit - and you don't release a wireless unit without FCC approval. And you don't get FCC approval on something and release it the next week. So we can be reasonably sure that whatever is on the horizon will not have a radio in it - WiFi, Bluetooth etc.

As to the 64 meg unit - that is straight from one of those many, inane "my perfect palm" wishlists. Palm has never seen fit to produce a unit with more than 16 meg and I woudl bet that the first time it breaks that barrier will be for a 32 meg machine. Previously, the 16 meg was an OS limitation (which hopefully has been fixed in OS 5). But remember kids, this is the same company that released a 3rd generation OS (5.x) with the same 4k memo limit that the Pilot 1000 shipped with. Palm has always seen fit to allow 3rd party developers and memory card makers make up for the shortcomings of their units.

I am inclined however to think that the new unit will have an on-board camera (the C in the rumored Tungsten C) If it ships with that, a usable T|W style keyboard (which beats the Sony's hands down) - and the same 14 meg usable that the T|T has, it will be beating most of the shortfalls of the T|T against the likes of the NX series - although don't expect Virtual Graffitti or a larger screen - I don't see Palm doing that either.

Palm SG needs to get on the ball with selling midrange models. They have nothing that is even close that will compare to the Sony's or the iPAQ h1910.

After a few months and being the very happy owner of a T/C, I'd like to ask if you still hold the same views?
