When being used as a mobile phone, the speaker and microphone are on the back of the i700, so the screen isn't touching the user's face.

Thats an interesting implementation IMO... However, when you dial a number, do you have constantly flip the mobile to the to the opposite side to listen/talk? That would be very annoying...

Similar in specs to the SGH-500 - but i'll take the Palm
The SGH-500 does it for me more - more of a phone, better res, PalmOS, just as fast (?), SDIO (according to what i read yesterday).

No. The reporters are mistaking the speakerphone on the back as the headset. This phone's headset and mic is in the front, not on the back.

I got a demonstration of this device at CES. The speaker and micrphone are on the back. I don't think this will be inconvenient. Cleaning oils from your face off the screen, now that's inconvenient.

Hey Ed, I just read something from Dale at PPCPassion and he says that the speaker and mic are frontside. ???
He claims to have used one as well.

You sure you're not confusing this with the Hitachi model with the built-in thumbboard? Perhaps that one has the speaker/mic on the back?

According to my local newspaper, Verizon is set to announce new pricing for its high-speed data service. The blurb in the paper said that in some markets the price would be up to 30% less than it is currently. This probably will still be quite a bit more than Sprint's plan, but I welcome any and all price reductions.
