"Write Acceleration"?
Anyone have a good ide of what his "write acceleration" actually does? Google isn't helping me, the best I can get is that it's probably not 16-bit writes because it's only a 20% increase in speed... 16-bit writes would double write speed.

Wow!
Way too expensive! How sad when the cost of your storage card is more than the cost of your PDA!

Not really. If you want the latest technology you'll have to pay for it. BTW, these cards looked like they are more geared to serious digital photographers. And of course these can be used in PDA's (prolly for lots of music, videos, etc.) but I think the intent is for digital photography.

Yeah, they don't allow faster reads, for smoother gaming or playback of media junk. Just faster writes, as I understand it. I think the figure I once saw was 128kbps faster per multiple indicated of the 'normal' 128kbps. I could be mis-remembering.
I have a 12x Lexar, and backups run to it are a lot faster, as are dumps of any large files in File Explorer or when using it with my PC via a CF>PC adapter.
The SanDisk 1GB CF came out only a few months ago, with retail being about USD$1200 initially, I think. Now it's a lot less. Lowest sale I've seen was about $360, or thereabouts. So don't freak about this one's price. Give it a few months or a year and watch the price plummet. Of course, by next winter there'll probably be 20GB Cf cards...

If there is one thing we can count on in this industry, its that memory will always get cheaper. I remember paying $100 for a 20 MB hard drive back in the 80s. A friend of mine's company paid $10,000 for a 10 MB hard drive sometime in the 70s. It was the size of a refrigerator.

I know it's not rational, but hey, it's gotta hurt that any digital camera sold now comes with at least a 16MB card tossed in... if you're the guy who paid the $10,000 all those years ago. Nowadays it's not even all that rare to have a Terabyte of storage in a company setting, at least among mig media outfits. In 30 years maybe a pocketable computer will have a TB of built-in storage, with add-ons of 100 times that for the large of pocket. Gotta have it for those 3D feature-length films and projectors all the Pocket PCs will house, right?

It's so true... well, a TB of data isn't that hard to achieve. You can prolly buy the hard drives alone for a grand... and for a business, that isn't much to spend for a load of data storage.

Wow. This thing will hold 20 hours of CIF resolution video (TV quality) at 30fps recorded by Pretec's new DV-4200 solid-state camcorder:

You could probably "see" the 1's and 0's if you examined hard enough....
