It is stock rooted ICS that I manually installed. I've considered CM9, and see that even CM10 is in beta.

I've tried apps like juice-defender. I've done resets and factory resets. I don't know if it's the phone or the battery -- all I know is that I'm fed up. I left home at 8:15 this morning with 100% charge. My phone was plugged in while I made a brief call to my brother. I plugged my phone in again at my desk. By 10:15, the battery was down to 78%! On top of that, I think there's a problem with the digitizer. Every so often, the virtual keyboard or bottom menu will pop up. It's gotten worse recently, but doesn't seem to have a pattern.

Hopefully Sprint will replace my phone and resolve the battery and screen problems. But even with those improvements, my complaints don't. The reception strength for both data and calls is poor. I work downtown Minneapolis and can't remember having a signal problem since leaving AT&T and moving to Sprint (5 years ago?). Since getting the E4GT, I've encountered many dead spots, including my desk. I'm very tempted to reactivate my TP2 and tether it to my E4GT, but I'd rather not have to carry 2 devices. I'm also hoping ICS ---- IF SPRINT/SAMSUNG EVER MAKE IT AVAILABLE FOR THE E4GT!!! ---- will improve things. I will probably install a custom ROM in the near future, but was hoping to get the official ICS first.

Sigh. Thanks for letting me rant.
what happened with battery life, pre-ICS? just wondering....

Battery life is the same or worse, as is radio strength for calls and data. I can work with it, but it's a total PITA.

I read recently some negative stuff about the Epic 4GT in looking at other Androids and thought of you Jig; but I forgot to bookmark it. I was looking at Evo LTE stuff, so maybe I can find it again. Something about the display and battery life I think.

I'm getting more frustrated. My battery drains at least 10% each hour, I'm experiencing some phantom, random memory pop-ups, and my phone has shut down 2 or 3 times today during phone calls. Sprint wants $35 to try and help me, or I could ship it to Samsung and wait 2 to 3 weeks for warranty service. Sigh....I'm about ready to throw in the towel. I've got to much going on right now to try and fight.

If the phone is constantly looking for a network connection, that will drain your battery, fast. Since you didn't have this issue with the 755p, in the same location, Sprint needs to step up and either give you a direct replacement, or a refund, or an acceptable alternate model.

As for the $35 they want to charge you, that's horsedroppings, in my opinion...

I too have had issues with battery life recently. Yesterday, my phone was flat dead by 3:30. I suspect an app I put on there is AWOL, and pounding data / gps, etc. I've done a few app removals. If that doesn't fix it, I'll reflash. I was getting great battery life before I went putzing. Oy!

My device has been running on battery for 4h 47min. I got up around 7AM and pulled it off the charger some time after that. The battery was at 99% (why not 100%??).

    Battery percent is at 47%
    Android OS consumed 39%. CPU total 22m 49s, Stay awake 1h 8m 4s (wtf?)
Screen consumed 28%. Time on 24m 1s (I have it set on the lowest setting)
Most other consumption is questionable, too. Sigh....

    This sucks.

That's pretty whacky, I've never seen Android OS use the most battery on any of the android models I've had, usually if an app has been chewing the battery it will show up in the battery history by itself.
I'd be pretty unhappy about the battery run times you get also, the screen on/battery usage is high as well compared to my WVGA SII version, especially as you have forced lowest brightness.
Maybe it's as simple as...'it's a lemon', I agree with Rick and don't think it's unreasonable at all to expect at least a replacement.

Jig, I suggest installing SystemTuner, and use the logging function on there. It will show you way more information than you can shake a stick at. Will likely help you see what app or process is running that much.
