Yeah, go for it! Who knows when they'll be available again in the US. I'll get mine around March 7th. You could even get yours before I do.

    I dood it!

My new case will be on it's way from Hong Kong (or wherever their pack&ship point is).

Shipping was free, but I paid $6 for a tracking number.

This isn't a criticism; but those 'wires' look like large, heavy-duty paper clips.

That case looks nice; but my one worry would be that it's 'hinged' at the bottom. Isn't that a bit odd and awkward? Most cases like that fold UP as I recall.

Now that you mention it, yes, they kind of look like clips. Extra-extra heavy duty, maybe. These electrodes are very stiff and hard. My cutting pliers had a tough time with them.

Yes, thats also a concern I had. Will surely require getting used to it. All the cases (leather or metal) I've had fold either up or sideways. This will be very different. However, from the pictures you can see that the front flap can rotate 180º, all the way to the back of the case until it's flush with it. This means you can hide the flap away while you hold the case in your hand. This would be very nice, I think. We'll have to wait and see.

EDIT: Congratulations, Hook! Do let know when you receive the case!

This has nothing to do with anything, but I'm also going to pick up a new Class 10 32Gb micro SDHC card. I want to start with a totally fresh system on this baby. The Nexus One will keep it's 16Gb card, even with it's reduced role.

Too bad the Melkco case doesn't follow the original Star Trek communicator style.

Well, I got my Melkco case and wow, am I impressed. It is really fine leather with a really nice smell. Reminds me of my old Piel Frama case for my TX. The surface is very soft. It molds around the back, a snug fit. Makes it fit nicely and comfortably in my left front pants pocket, but, believe it or not the Galaxy Player with this case on actually sits pretty securely in a dress shirt chest pocket.

The front flap opening down is not a problem. It folds over the back very easily and is comfortable in the hand. On fact, the molded clip can be used to rest a finger which makes the grip in the hand even more secure.

I do have a couple of concerns.

    1. The closure, as I indicated, is a molded hook of stiffer leather that is shaped to the body frame so it gently snaps in place over the frame. I suspect this will cause wear over time, though it is really well designed and locks in place pretty gently. However, I also wonder if the hook over time will distort its shape and fail to clasp.

    2. It has a very weird pocket of some kind in front. I actually can't figure out what it was designed for. It is a flat flap that pulls out extending two ribbons. It is about the size of business cards, but with the two ribbons, you couldn't put any in. You might be able to keep a memory card there, but it seems to have in no way been designed for that. What concerns me is it is a hard flap and it goes up against the screen. It doesn't seem a grea danger because, right now, the clip truly immobilizes the front, but if it ever became loosey-goosey, I'd worry.

Despite the two concerns, I love the case. It is high quality and does a great job.

I may however also splurge on a PDAir horizontal holster from Amazon as a back-up in case (no pun intended).

Nonetheless, this is one beautiful case and I'm happy with it!

Nice to know is a fine case. I had some concerns as it's a brand I'd never heard of before.

Regarding the molded hook, I have similar concerns. However, I think protecting the GP5 with a clear body cover will prevent any wear or scratches. The one my Player has covers most of the top panel, except the SD slot cover.
About the hook deforming, if it happens may it be possible to insert a stiffener (a thin steel sheet or rigid curved plastic may do the job) between the leather layers? I've done this back when I had a Palm-branded leather case for my TX.

And I guess the weird pocket is actually the stand, the two ribbons are to prevent it from opening too much. Check the pics at Amazon, you'll see how it works. Since it must support the GP5, it must be stiff. Check the attached picture to see the stand deployed.

EDIT: Back when I used the Palm leather case on my TX, the front flap did rub against the TX's screen and scratched and stained the screen protector - the inside of the case was not leather, but stained cloth of some kind. Maybe the stand foot will rub against the GP5's screen too. Does your Player have a screen protector attached? Is it possible to attach some smooth material (i.e. velvet) to the inside of the foot to prevent it from scratching the screen?

If it is meant to be a stand, it is poorly designed. It doesn't come out far enough and would really need to be closer to the edge-- it is centered. I can sort of get it to act as a stand, but the screen isn't at the optimal angle and it falls if you breath on it. I'm probably just going to lock it in place somehow.

I'll figure something to protect the screen. I really hate screen protectors. It doesn't seem to be an immediate threat.

This flaw is really a shame as the case is just beautiful. There was just no way to know without ordering it.

I'll take some photos later and post.
